No rest for the wicked: It took less than a month for Lenovo to improve the Vibe C2

With Lenovo having announced the Vibe C2 in July, it might come as a surprise to most that the Chinese manufacturer has already unveiled an improved version, reports GSMArena.

Called the Vibe C2 Power, the phone certainly lives up to its name by including a beefy 3,500mAh battery, a considerable increase from the original Vibe C2’s 2,750mAh power pack. Furthermore, the Vibe C2 Power includes 2GB RAM, which should make multitasking a more enjoyable experience than on the original, which features 1GB RAM.

Other than that, the Vibe C2 Power and the Vibe C2 are practically identical. As a refresher, the Vibe C2 features a 5-inch, 1,280 x 720 resolution IPS display, with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter up front and an 8MP main camera around back. Under the hood, a 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P chipset powers the phone, though it comes with a meager 8GB of built-in storage out of the box. Thankfully, you can add up to an additional 32GB through the Micro SD card slot.

Featuring a dual-SIM card slot, the Vibe C2 runs Vibe UI, Lenovo’s custom flavor of Android 6.0 Marshmallow that eschews the traditional app drawer and puts the apps on your home screens. It is unknown whether the phone will receive the upcoming Android Nougat update, though given its budget status, we will not be surprised if the answer is no.

The most important thing about the Vibe C2, however, is that it served as the basis for this year’s Moto E, due out in the U.K. in September, which is why the former might seem like déjà vu at this point. This gets us thinking about whether there will be a slightly beefier version of the Moto E, seeing how the Vibe C2 Power was announced, and given that last year’s version came in two flavors.

That is pure speculation at this point, however, as is the Vibe C2 Power’s price tag. We do not expect it to stray too far from the Vibe C2’s price, which sits at around $167. As with the original, the Vibe C2 Power was announced for Russia, though it might make its way to other regions.

Cost-cutting strips Pixel 9a of the best Gemini AI features in Pixel 9

The Pixel 9a has been officially revealed, and while it's an eye candy, there are some visible cutbacks over the more premium Pixel 9 and 9 Pro series phones. The other cutbacks we don't see include lower RAM than the Pixel 9 phones, which can limit the new mid-ranger's ability to run AI applications, despite running the same Tensor G4 chipset.

Google's decision to limit the RAM to 8GB, compared to the 12GB on the more premium Pixel 9 phones, sacrifices its ability to run certain AI tasks locally. ArsTechnica has reported that as a result of the cost-cutting, Pixel 9a runs an "extra extra small" or XXS variant -- instead of the "extra small" variant on Pixel 9 -- of the Gemini Nano 1.0 model that drives on-device AI functions.
