Nexus 5 specs leak out, includes Snapdragon 800 chip and 5-inch screen

After the Nexus 4 sold out online following a drastic price reduction, it was only a matter of time before we heard more about the next major Google phone. Soon afterwards, what we believe to be the Nexus 5 popped up in an official Google video and now, while we wait for the big launch day to be announced, a complete spec list has been leaked online, giving us an excellent idea of what the final product may be like.

The spec list comes from an internal service manual, apparently originating from LG, for the LG-D821 smartphone, a model number which has repeatedly been linked to the Nexus 5. So what can we expect? The IPS TFT touchscreen is listed as measuring 4.95-inches, so we’ll call it 5-inches, and the resolution is 1080p. While this isn’t as large as LG’s G2 smartphone, it’s the same as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z.

A Snapdragon 800 processor running at its full 2.3GHz capacity, and ably assisted by 2GB of RAM, should be powering the phone, just as it does most other major, high-end smartphones released during the second half of this year. An 8-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization – but not with DigitalOptics’ Lytro-like focusing tech – and a 1.3-megapixel video call camera should also be onboard.

It looks like there will be a choice of either 16GB or 32GB storage space, so we can wave goodbye to the Nexus 4’s feeble 8GB option, plus a 2300mAh battery, NFC, and 4G LTE connectivity. We’re pleased for the latter, although would have been shocked if Google left it out for the second time.

It’s also worth noting the document was marked as a draft, so these specs may not be final. We’re expecting to find out before November, with rumors putting the Nexus 5’s announcement for October 30.

The Pixel 9a has been officially revealed, and while it's an eye candy, there are some visible cutbacks over the more premium Pixel 9 and 9 Pro series phones.
