Chevrolet looks towards the past with 2015 Silverado Custom Sport edition

Chevrolet has announced it is launching a new Custom Sport appearance package that will be available on select 2015 Silverado 1500 models.

The package draws inspiration from the Custom Sport Truck that was introduced in time for the 1967 model year. The Custom Sport Truck helped make the pickup popular as a personal vehicle thanks to features like bright trim on the outside, plush carpet and bucket seats.

The Silverado Custom Sport gains body-colored bumpers on both ends, a black radiator grille with chrome accents, 20-inch chromed alloy wheels as well as chrome trim on the mirrors, the door handles and the plastic cladding at the bottom of the doors. Projector beam headlights and tow hooks front and back round out the exterior modifications.

Chevrolet has not published pictures of the interior but it says the package adds heated mirrors.

The Custom Sport package will be available on LT and LTZ double and crew cab models, including those equipped with the off-road-focused Z71 package. LT Custom Sport trucks will be available in black or white, while LTZ models will come in either black or White Diamond Tricoat.

Set to go on sale later this month, the package will cost between $1,950 and $2,950 depending on which model it is paired with.

But plenty of people still want a greener vehicle, and that has given rise to an explosion in hybrid vehicle sales.

That's especially true of plug-in hybrid vehicles, which can be charged like an EV and driven in all-electric mode for short distances, and have a gas engine as a backup for longer distances or to be used in combination with electric mode for more efficient driving.

Nearly all current owners of electric vehicles (EVs) are either satisfied or very satisfied with the experience, and 92% of them plan to buy another EV, according to a survey by the Global EV Drivers Alliance.

The survey of 23,000 EV drivers worldwide found that only 1% would return to a petrol or diesel car, while 4% would opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car.
