Toyota’s 2015 Camry gets new looks, an upscale interior, and ‘sporty’ XSE model

It’s been only three years since Toyota debuted the current generation Camry, but 2015 marks a complete redesign of the mid-size sedan, inside and out.

The front and rear fascia of the Camry have been updated with more aggressive styling, a slightly widened track, and new LED daytime running lights. There’s no question that this is an angrier looking Camry, especially in SE and XSE trims.

There’s also the option to add LED high- and low-beam headlights, which will certainly make the car look more expensive in the dark, but we’re surprised that it’s only an option, since those lights are standard on the 2014 Corolla. The interior adds new soft-touch materials and a generally upscale look and feel, a la the Toyota Avalon, and Toyota claims that it’s the now the quietest Camry ever built.

Under the hood, the car goes mostly unchanged. The same 2.5-liter four-cylinder, 3.5-liter V6 and four-cylinder hybrid drivetrains are all still available across the lineup, but a sportier XSE trim also makes its debut for 2015. The Camry XSE builds on the SE’s sportier styling and suspension, but also adds firmer bushings, new springs and dampers, and a more aggressively-tuned EPS system, making the XSE the sportiest Camry yet.

The 2015 Toyota Camry also now offers blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision and lane departure warnings.

Nearly all current owners of electric vehicles (EVs) are either satisfied or very satisfied with the experience, and 92% of them plan to buy another EV, according to a survey by the Global EV Drivers Alliance.

The survey of 23,000 EV drivers worldwide found that only 1% would return to a petrol or diesel car, while 4% would opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car.

The transition team of President-elect Donald Trump is planning to end existing car-crash reporting requirements to safety regulators, according to a Reuters report.

The report cites a document obtained by Reuters that lays out the transition team’s 100-day strategy for automotive policy. In the document, the team says the crash-reporting requirement leads to “excessive” data collection, Reuters says.
