Cadillac ELR luxury electric car pictures

Cadillac, synonymous with Luxury ? Yes. Synonymous with extended-range electric vehicles? Not so much. All that could change however with the introduction of the Cadillac ELR. The evolution of the Cadillac Converj concept car to the Cadillac ELR production car is Cadillac’s attempt at a luxury coupe with extended-range electric vehicle technology.

Because the development of the ELR is in its initial phases, not too many details are available at this time, with Cadillac opting to announce more later. What we do know for the time being is the ELR will feature an electric propulsion system, comprised of a T-shaped lithium ion battery, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine-generator. The primary source fueling the car just so happens to be…you guessed it, electricity, which in turn allows for the absence of gasoline consumption and tailpipe emissions. At the point that the battery engine begins to run low, the ELR switches to extended-range mode allowing for the vehicle to travel for hundreds of additional miles.

Cadillac is no stranger to redefining itself, with a series of ambitious and innovative cars that have done well for the company in recent times. Will the Cadillac ELR be added to that list? With the introduction of forward-thinking technology and engineering, Cadillac are certainly hoping so.

However, higher-end models like the ones we're looking at here can keep up with some of the most powerful gasoline-burning sports cars in the world -- and in many cases beat them.

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ on a city street.

The massive Cadillac Escalade isn't exactly the picture of environmental friendliness, but General Motors is committed to expanding electrification to all corners of its product lineup — and that includes Cadillac's big, three-row full-size SUV.

The all-electric 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ begins production next summer, applying the same formula from the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV pickup trucks to a full-size luxury SUV. The Escalade IQ uses the name of a current GM internal-combustion model, but is based on the automaker's Ultium EV component set, with an EV-specific body structure designed around a modular battery pack.
