One pricey pony: First production 2015 Ford Mustang sells for $300K at auction

The first 2015 Ford Mustang has been sold, but it wasn’t driven off a showroom floor.

The car sold at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona for a cool $300,000. Ford hasn’t announced pricing for the 2015 model, but considering that a 2014 Mustang GT starts at $31,210, this ‘Stang likely crossed the block for around 10 times its normal sticker price.

The winning bidder will get to choose between a manual or automatic transmission, and will be able to select “any interior, exterior and stripe combination offered by Ford on the all-new Mustang,” the Dearborn carmaker said.

Naturally, the first production 2015 Mustang is a GT model with a 5.0-liter V8 producing around 420 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

It was all for a good cause, with 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Those with considerably less money (and luck) will have to wait until later this year to get behind the wheel of a 2015 Mustang.

While Barrett-Jackson is primarily known for pristine vintage cars (and the televised bidding wars they instigate), it’s not uncommon for manufacturers to send rare models across the block for charity.

For the 2014 event, Chevrolet sent the first production 2014 COPO Camaro and Z/28 to the auction, with proceeds benefitin Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans and Cornerstone Schools, respectively.

Nearly all current owners of electric vehicles (EVs) are either satisfied or very satisfied with the experience, and 92% of them plan to buy another EV, according to a survey by the Global EV Drivers Alliance.

The survey of 23,000 EV drivers worldwide found that only 1% would return to a petrol or diesel car, while 4% would opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car.

The transition team of President-elect Donald Trump is planning to end existing car-crash reporting requirements to safety regulators, according to a Reuters report.

The report cites a document obtained by Reuters that lays out the transition team’s 100-day strategy for automotive policy. In the document, the team says the crash-reporting requirement leads to “excessive” data collection, Reuters says.
