Geneva 2013: Aftermarket outfitter Mansory tunes Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 into 1250 hp monster

Lamborghini Mansory We always just assumed that Lamborghini engineers were the final word in Lambo performance. It stands to reason that with so much passion, knowledge, and outright craziness, the Lamborghini-designed offerings couldn’t get any faster or better looking. How wrong we were.

Aftermarket outfitter Mansory – a company that has tinkered with such vehicles as the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG and Aston Martin DBS in the past – has now turned its tuning mastery on the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4.

The result is something perfectly out of this world. Mansory took the stock 700 horsepower 6.5-liter V12 Aventador engine and virtually threw it all away. Engineers replaced the pistons, connecting rods, rod bearings, crankshaft, crank, cylinder head, and topped it all off with twin turbochargers. The Mansory Aventador now produces a staggering 1250 horsepower. That kind of power pushes the LP700-4 from 0-62 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds.

Mansory didn’t stop with the engine. The body, which now shows off its carbon fiber construction, is 40 millimeters wider in the front and 50 mm wider in the back. On the interior, Mansory has processed leather to the seats and dashboard as well as some non-slip pedals. The Mansory Aventador also brings carbon fiber touches around the doors and center console. Distinctively, Mansory moved the starter button to the roof, to give the special edition Aventador more of an aircraft feel.

While we don’t yet know how much it’ll cost, we presume it’d be near the $1-millon mark. Check back for more info as the 2013 Geneva Auto Show kicks into gear.

Plug-in hybrids are becoming more popular. Why? And will it continue?
Kia Niro EV Charging Port

There's a lot of talk about the idea that the growth in electric car sales has kind of slowed a little. It's not all that surprising -- EVs are still expensive, early adopters all have one by now, and they're still new enough to where there aren't too many ultra-affordable used EVs available. But plenty of people still want a greener vehicle, and that has given rise to an explosion in hybrid vehicle sales.

That's especially true of plug-in hybrid vehicles, which can be charged like an EV and driven in all-electric mode for short distances, and have a gas engine as a backup for longer distances or to be used in combination with electric mode for more efficient driving.

Nearly all current owners of electric vehicles (EVs) are either satisfied or very satisfied with the experience, and 92% of them plan to buy another EV, according to a survey by the Global EV Drivers Alliance.

The survey of 23,000 EV drivers worldwide found that only 1% would return to a petrol or diesel car, while 4% would opt for a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) if they had to replace their car.
