And then there was one…

Well not quite…working with a group of 20 engineers outside of Zagreb, Croatia, the team at Rimac Automobili has designed an all-electric supercar triumphantly called, the Concept One.

The all-electric supercar features a beastly 1,088 horsepower and can reach 62 mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds maxing out at a top-speed of 190mph. Additionally, the range of the Concept One is stated to sit impressively at 370 miles and includes a body consisting of carbon-fiber. Furthermore, the interior of the Concept One was designed by a team formerly with famed Italian car design firm, Pininfarina.

Of course all of that sounds super sexy, but what is of real interest is the fact that each wheel on the Concept One is powered by a separate electric motor, independently controlled by its own inverter and reduction gearbox. Rimac dubs it “All Wheel Torque Vectoring”, and it is said to offer unparallelled performance at top speeds and while accelerating out of corners.

Looking to get on a waiting list for one of these Eastern European automotive beauties? Rimac promises to build 88 units, with deliveries starting in 2013.

Lamborghini teases its first all-electric supercar ahead of Friday’s big reveal

Lamborghini will unveil a concept of its first fully electric supercar at Monterey Car Week in California on Friday.

The Italian automaker earlier this week released a teaser in the form of a silhouette image of the sleek-looking vehicle. In a comment accompanying the image, it told auto fans to expect something “new and truly thrilling.”

Mercedes-Benz this week unveiled a new electric concept car that looks back as well as forward. It's called the Vision One-Eleven, and it's a reminder that car designers have a long history of predicting the future.

The Vision One-Eleven is inspired by the C111 series of experimental vehicles that first appeared in 1969. With their aerodynamic styling, roof-hinged gullwing doors, and distinctive orange paint, the C111 cars became fixtures of auto show stands and car-magazine features throughout the 1970s. They were more than show cars, though, testing then-trendy ideas like fiberglass body panels and rotary engines.

Audi ActiveSphere concept is part luxury sedan, part pickup truck

Audi unveiled the fourth and final member of its Sphere-branded series of concept cars, and the design study is unlike anything we've seen before. Called ActiveSphere, it's an electric luxury sedan with a generous amount of ground clearance that can turn into a pickup truck.

Created at the Audi Design Studio in Malibu, California, the ActiveSphere stretches approximately 196 inches long, 81 inches wide, and 63 inches tall, figures that make it about as long as the current-generation A6, 7 inches wider, and 6 inches taller. It wears a rounded exterior design characterized by thin headlights, a transparent piece of trim where you'd expect to find a grille, and a fastback-like silhouette.
