Nvidia’s new DLSS 3 differs from previous iterations by implementing a new algorithm called Optical Multi Frame Generation that predicts whole frames instead of regular pixels. It’s supposed to be up to four times faster and is bundled with other Nvidia technology like Super Resolution, Frame Generation, and Reflex.

Microsoft Flight Simulator | NVIDIA DLSS 3 - Exclusive First-Look

The company showed off a demo of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a CPU-intensive game, boosted to up to 135 frames per second (FPS) using DLSS 3. This was while ray tracing was enabled. Flight Simulator was already known to be a resource-intensive game, so it’s impressive that Nvidia was able to achieve such high frame rates. However, this isn’t a fast-paced first person shooter, so 135 frames isn’t actually crucial.

Fan-favorite Portal was also upgraded with ray tracing. Despite the game’s age, the video showed off impressive shadows, global illumination, and lighting effects.

EXCLUSIVE First Look! Cyberpunk 2077 with NVIDIA DLSS 3 & Ray Tracing: Overdrive

Cyberpunk 2077, a game that already looked impressive with ray tracing, was also shown off with DLSS 3. Developer CD Projekt Red enabled a new Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode that ups the level of detail with RTX Direct Illumination, boosting the fidelity of lighting and reflections to full resolution.

The Overdrive Mode also showcases other technology exclusive to the new RTX 40-series cards like Shader Execution Reordering (SER), Opacity Micromaps, and Real Time Denoisers (NRD).

A number of other announcements were unveiled at at Nvidia’s Geforce Beyond keynote at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC). Check out all of Digital Trends’ coverage.

Nvidia RTX 50-series GPUs: performance, specs, prices, availability
The RTX 5090 sitting next to the RTX 4090.

Nvidia has announced its new line of GPUs, the RTX 50-series -- and the first two are almost here, ready to rival the best graphics cards. We were already able to get our hands on the RTX 5090, which is why we now have a better idea of what these cards are capable of.

While we're still waiting for the RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070, we know that Nvidia is promising some huge leaps in performance, thanks to the new AI powers of DLSS 4. Here's everything you need to know about Nvidia's RTX 50-series.

Nvidia may keep producing one RTX 40 GPU, and it’s not the one we want
The Alienware m16 R2 on a white desk.

The last few weeks brought us a slew of rumors about Nvidia potentially sunsetting most of the RTX 40-series graphics cards. However, a new update reveals that one GPU might remain in production long after other GPUs are no longer being produced. Unfortunately, it's a GPU that would struggle to rank among Nvidia's best graphics cards. I'm talking about the RTX 4050 -- a card that only appears in laptops.

The scoop comes from a leaker on Weibo and was first spotted by Wccftech. The leaker states that the RTX 4050 is "the only 40-series laptop GPU that Nvidia will continue to supply" after the highly anticipated launch of the RTX 50-series. Unsurprisingly, the tipster also reveals that the fact that both the RTX 4050 and the RTX 5050 will be readily available at the same time will also impact the pricing of the next-gen card.

Nvidia just scaled down DLSS 3, and that’s a good thing
The RTX 4080 Super graphics card sitting on a pink background.

Nvidia's signature tech, DLSS 3, just got yet another update -- and although it's subtle, it actually seems like a good thing for some of the best graphics cards. The latest version, 3.8.10, bundled with the GeForce 566.14 driver, doesn't seem to introduce any major changes, but Nvidia enthusiasts noticed that it's about half the size that it used to be. Where's that difference coming from?

No, Nvidia didn't downgrade DLSS 3 -- at least not in any major way. Although this hasn't been confirmed by Nvidia itself, it appears that the company removed a whole bunch of DLSS presets and replaced them with just two. These presets make it easier for gamers to choose the type of focus they want to apply to each game.
