Nvidia has a good idea to help you buy a new GPU

Nvidia is testing a new way to order the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition starting today. It’s called Verified Priority Access, and details about it were posted today in Nvidia’s Gaming PCs community forum. Through this program, Nvidia will send out invitations to a limited number of GeForce gamers and creators with a unique link to purchase Nvidia’s latest and best graphics card through a Founders Edition partner in their area, such as Best Buy. The program is available in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, and Spain through retailers in those countries.

The locked post is quite brief but VideoCardz uncovered some additional details. Apparently, the invitation comes via GeForce Experience so you might need to have the app installed in order to find out if you were selected to be first in line to order.

New Nvidia graphics cards are always exciting since they open up the possibility of greater performance at higher resolutions, with more features enabled. Every game gets better, not to mention cutting render times for videos and graphics processing. The only trouble is getting your hands on the latest Nvidia GPU when there is such high demand.

Nvidia hasn’t shared how many people will be included in the Verified Priority Access, but it will almost certainly be quite restricted. Nvidia GPUs have a long and distressing history of selling out immediately, sometimes the moment the product goes live. Eager customers have become quite angry, realizing that crypto miners are even more determined to get their hands on high-end graphics cards to speed up their operations.

Nvidia warns gamers of an incoming GPU shortage

Get ready for yet another GPU shortage, as Nvidia has warned about potential shortages in the current quarter. Although the company’s third-quarter revenue saw a healthy growth, in its recent earnings call, company Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress said that the fourth-quarter revenue is expected to decline sequentially due to supply constraints.

The anticipated GPU shortage could potentially stem from a strategic shift in production to prepare for the next-generation RTX 50-series “Blackwell” GPUs, slated for release in 2025. This supply transition, coupled with surging gaming and professional use-case demand, seems to have left the company in a tight spot. Nvidia acknowledged its struggle to maintain stock for both gamers and enterprise customers, emphasizing its ongoing efforts to expand manufacturing capacity.

Nvidia may keep producing one RTX 40 GPU, and it’s not the one we want

The last few weeks brought us a slew of rumors about Nvidia potentially sunsetting most of the RTX 40-series graphics cards. However, a new update reveals that one GPU might remain in production long after other GPUs are no longer being produced. Unfortunately, it's a GPU that would struggle to rank among Nvidia's best graphics cards. I'm talking about the RTX 4050 -- a card that only appears in laptops.

The scoop comes from a leaker on Weibo and was first spotted by Wccftech. The leaker states that the RTX 4050 is "the only 40-series laptop GPU that Nvidia will continue to supply" after the highly anticipated launch of the RTX 50-series. Unsurprisingly, the tipster also reveals that the fact that both the RTX 4050 and the RTX 5050 will be readily available at the same time will also impact the pricing of the next-gen card.

Just last week, we reported on the end of production for the RTX 40-series. Now, new information from Board Channels (shared by Gazlog) suggests that the final shipments of Nvidia's best graphics cards are right around the corner. Some GPUs, like the RTX 4090, have already seen their final shipments. With the holidays on the horizon, now might be the last time to buy the RTX 40-series at a decent price before stock levels begin dwindling.

Despite being two years old, Nvidia's RTX 40-series has held up in terms of GPU prices. Only the RTX 4090 went up from its original recommended list price (MSRP), with the rest of the lineup holding steady and mostly hovering around the launch price. Things might take a turn for the worse, though, if this report ends up being true.
