Spring is here and summer is just around the corner, so now is a great time to start looking for an action cam if you don’t have one already. GoPro has set the standard for these wearable little cameras, but if you don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars for one of the high-end models, then check out the compact and affordable GoPro Hero Session.
The Hero Session is the smallest member of the GoPro family, coming in at under 1.5 inches on each side and weighing just 2.6 ounces. The camera housing is waterproof at depths of up to 10 meters (33 feet) and is compatible with a wide variety of GoPro housings and mounts perfect for almost any activity.
The camera itself offers three different resolution settings for recording video: 1,140p at 30 frames per second, 1,080p at 60 fps, and 720p at 100 fps. For still photography, the GoPro Hero Session snaps pictures at 8 megapixels and can take burst photos at 10 frames per second. You can also shoot time-lapse photography with picture intervals of between 0.5 and 60 seconds.
Your footage is saved to a MicroSD card, and internal storage can be expanded to up to 128GB. When you’re ready to shoot, press the single button on top of the camera and the unit immediately starts recording or snapping photos. The Hero Session is both Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-capable for easy syncing with GoPro mobile apps, so you’ll be able to upload, edit, and share your creations.
The GoPro Hero Session earned a solid rating of 7.5 from our review team, which called it “GoPro’s easiest-to-use action cam,” but lamented its $400 retail price tag. Now, you can score this excellent little device for just $149 on Amazon after a 25 percent discount off of its current cost, netting you a tidy savings of $51. If you’re in the market for an affordable name-brand wearable camera to record your adventures this summer, the GoPro Hero Session offers a lot of value.
