How long is Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

It’s no secret that the Assassin’s Creed games have gotten longer and longer over the years. This is typical for Ubisoft open-world titles, but many are hoping that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has scaled back on the bloat a bit. There’s always fast travel and finding the fastest ways to earn XP to cut down on the grind, but there’s only so much time that can be saved. If you’re worried that this game might be another 100-hour time investment to fully complete, let’s use our Eagle Vision to scout out how long Assassin’s Creed Shadows is before you start playing.

As you would expect, the amount of time you could put into Assassin’s Creed Shadows will vary wildly based on how you approach it. You can focus on just the story and nothing else, tackle a handful of side missions and activities, or attempt to complete anything and everything the game has to offer.

For just the mainline story, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a fairly lengthy experience. You can expect this tale to take 25 to 30 hours, depending on your approach. Playing with Naoe and attempting to use stealth and stay undetected as opposed to rushing in as Yasuke will obviously result in longer missions.

If you were to add in a healthy mix of side content while playing, as we did, then you can increase that time to 40 to 50 hours, again depending entirely on how much side content you think is worthwhile. For the ultimate completionists out there, expect at least 60 hours worth of activities, collectibles, side quests, and optional content to tackle.

A ship flies through space in Star Wars Outlaws.

Ubisoft revealed a new short-term road map on Friday for Star Wars Outlaws following a surprise announcement that it would be overhauling its development process because of weak sales.

A Ubisoft spokesperson called the Outlaws launch "softer than expected" in a statement to investors earlier this week, and promised that it would be implementing updates to polish the game and "improve the player experience" in the hopes it'll sell more copies this holiday season.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows: release date, trailers, gameplay, and more
The two heroes of Assassin's Creed Shadows stand side by side.

We've been asking for it ever since the series debut, and now we're finally getting an Assassin's Creed game set in feudal Japan. Previously known by the code name Assassin's Creed Red, Assassin's Creed Shadows will be the latest entry in the long-running Assassin's saga and will now be competing directly with Ghost of Yotei, as well as other heavy-hitting games in February like Monster Hunter Wilds. That said, of all the upcoming video games, an AC game set in Japan is likely going to be one of the most anticipated upcoming PS5 games and upcoming Xbox Series X games. Ubisoft let us know we would be getting the world premiere trailer first, but it turns out there was a lot more to show than just a first glimpse at the game. We've managed to gather all the footage and information shared online to deliver you the goods about Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Sorry, Nintendo fans, but you won't be able to partake in this Assassin's Creed game, but there are still plenty of upcoming Switch games to be excited for.

Ubisoft is making some big, last-minute changes. The next game in the Assassin's Creed franchise has been pushed into next year, according to a statement the company published Wednesday, due in part to the lower-than-expected performance of Star Wars Outlaws.

Assassin's Creed Shadows, which is set in feudal Japan and has two playable protagonists, has been delayed from November 15, 2024, to February 14, 2025, to give the developers more time to "polish and refine the experience."
