‘Infamous: Second Son’ leads September’s free PlayStation Plus games

You are likely going to be spending the majority of your time in September leveling up your Guardian in Destiny 2, but if you are itching to take a break and play something else, you will have a few good options in September’s free PlayStation Plus games. A certain PlayStation-exclusive superhero series leads the pack, as well as a PlayStation VR title.

Beginning next Tuesday, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to grab Infamous: Second Son. The superhero sequel originally released in 2014 and protagonist Delsin Rowe’s multiple power sets give you several different ways to explore Seattle. The stand-alone expansion Infamous: First Light was previously available as a PlayStation Plus freebie back in 2015.

PlayStation 4 players will also be able to pick up the aerial combat game Strike Vector Ex, which was redesigned with the PlayStation 4’s control scheme in mind. The PlayStation 4 version released last August and critics praised its old-school shooter roots and multiplayer gameplay.

But wait, there is more!

PlayStation VR

owners will also get a freebie in September in the form of Rigs: Mechanized Combat League. The multiplayer competitive sport-shooter was released as a launch title with the headset last year, and it makes tremendous use of the technology. A fun single-player option will also help you get up to speed with the game’s controls as well as its many robotic Rigs. With the game releasing for free, it should also see an influx of new players who can compete against each other.

PlayStation 3 players will receive Truck Racer, which originally launched in 2014 and is also available on PC. Also available on PlayStation 3 is Handball 2016 — it appears Sony might be running out of freebies to give away with the aging platform.

Lastly, the

PlayStation Vita

has not been forgotten. Indie hit Hatoful Boyfriend is coming to the handheld for free next month, as is We Are Doomed. The latter game is a twin-stick shooter also available on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. Both free games will also be free on PlayStation 4.

I own a PlayStation 5 Pro. It still hasn’t replaced my regular old PS5

When I first got my PlayStation 5 Pro, I had a whirlwind first week with it. I spent days on end testing as many games as I could to determine how much of an upgrade it really was over my base PS5. I looked at five-minute chunks of games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for hours, comparing every graphics mode on both systems. At the end of my PS5 vs. PS5 Pro testing, the result was clear: The PS5 Pro was indeed the more powerful console and, frankly, the most capable gaming device I had in my entire home.

So why, just two weeks later, am I still using my regular old PS5 so much?

Oh hey, GTA 5 is back on PlayStation Plus this month

November's PlayStation Plus lineup is packed with games this month, both in terms of quality and quantity. However, with Grand Theft Auto 6 on the horizon (hopefully sometime next year), arguably the biggest addition is Grand Theft Auto 5, which is back on the subscription service after leaving earlier this year.

There's not much to say about GTA 5 that hasn't already been said. It's one of the bestselling games of all time and still holds up more than 10 years after release. It's likely you already own it on some platform, but if you somehow don't or just want to play it on the PlayStation 5 or 4, you can play it for free with an Extra or Premium subscription.
