It’s the first full week of the month, so three new games have just been made available to PlayStation Plus subscribers across all three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. These games aren’t being tossed into the Extra and Premium game catalog indefinitely. Instead, PS Plus subscribers can redeem these games between now and September 2, and they will remain in your game library as long as you have an active PS Plus subscription. It’s a solid batch of games too, so if you’re looking for something to play this weekend, I’d definitely recommend checking out any of these three games.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the most ambitious Lego game TT Games ever made. It’s simultaneously a vast Star Wars sandbox that players can play around in and a cartoonish retelling of all nine films in The Skywalker Saga. While I feel that these two halves of the game clash at times, there’s no denying how giddy I felt exploring intricately recreated planets like Coruscant and Ahch-To, even if it was as a Lego version of Jar Jar Binks. It’s kid-friendly, supports co-op, and features more engaging combat gameplay than any other Lego title. The PS4 and PS5 versions of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are available via PS Plus throughout August. It’s also available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S through Game Pass, as well as Nintendo Switch.

If you’re in the mood for something more eerie and atmospheric than Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, then I’d recommend Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights. It’s an entertaining Metroidvania with RPG systems that follows an amnesiac priestess named Lily as she fights people and other creatures corrupted by the Blight. Lily doesn’t actually do the fighting herself, and instead uses the spirits of purified knights to fight on her behalf. This gives a memorable visual aesthetic to an otherwise straightforward and enjoyable 2D action game. The PS4 version of Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is available through PS Plus this month. It’s also on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a pretty iconic horror franchise at this point, and Security Breach is probably its most ambitious game. Rather than lock players in a single room, Security Breach instead lets players explore Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex and void creepy animatronics themselves. It adds a lot of interesting wrinkles to the series’ complex lore, too, as Freddy is more of an ally than an enemy in this game. You can even climb inside of and operate Freddy in this game. If you’re looking for something spooky and full of jump scares to experience this weekend, then this is definitely worth checking out. The PS4 and PS5 versions of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach are available through PS Plus this month, while the game is also available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

A new batch of games will be added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalogs next week, but many notable games will also leave Sony's gaming subscription service before that happens. Fans of Rockstar Games in particular will be disappointed as two of the studio's games are leaving PS Plus Extra's catalog ahead of 2025, which will potentially see the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. If you own a PS5, aren't picking up Lego Horizon Adventures, and are wondering what you should be playing this weekend, consider checking out any of these games leaving PS Plus.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 Launch Trailer

Rockstar's most recent game as of 2024, Red Dead Redemption 2, is an excellent open-world western. A prequel to the original Red Dead Redemption, it follows Arthur Morgan, who's part of Dutch van der Linde's gang alongside John Marston, as the sun sets on the Wild West and their gang slowly falls apart due to infighting, death, and questionable decisions from leaders like Dutch. It's an amazing story emboldened by a vast open world with a stunning amount of attention to even the smallest details. It's worth a revisit if you need to remind yourself why Rockstar is considered one of the best developers in the game industry and why you should truly be excited for GTA 6. If you don't own it, you don't have much time left to get that refresher for free.

3 new PS Plus games to play this weekend (November 8-10)

Earlier this week, November's batch of three new PlayStation Plus Essential titles dropped. Between now and December 2, PS Plus subscribers of all tiers can redeem these games for free. It's a good batch of titles, too. We not only have a brand new Death Note game launching onto the service, but also an enjoyable all-ages racing game and an exhilarating horror action title. If you're a PS Plus subscriber wondering what to play this weekend, any of these Essential monthly games can offer up a good time.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo - February 2022 Official Showcase | PS5

Ghostwire: Tokyo is the highest-profile PS Plus Essential game of the month. Tango Gameworks released this as a PS5 exclusive shortly after Microsoft acquired it. In the two-and-a-half years since its release, Tango brought Ghostwire: Tokyo to Xbox, released Hi-Fi Rush, got shut down by Microsoft, and was then revived by Krafton. That makes it fascinating to revisit Ghostwire: Tokyo now and see the last horror-infused swing the studio took before all of those wild things happened to it. Ghostwire: Tokyo is an entertaining supernatural action game where players fight Japanese demons with magic, and it's a worthy download for any PS Plus subscriber.

We've still got to wait a little longer before November's PlayStation Plus Essential monthly titles become available. For PS Plus subscribers who are looking for something to play but don't want to spend money on new games like Life is Strange: Double Exposure or Dragon Age: The Veilguard, October's list of PS Plus Extra game catalog additions was vast enough that there's still more great stuff there for you to try out. Those are the games I'm recommending you try out this weekend.
Return to Monkey Island
Return to Monkey Island | Gameplay Reveal Trailer

The Monkey Island series of adventure games helped put LucasArts on the map in the 1990s and still stand the test of time as some of the best titles in the genre. In 2022, series creator Ron Gilbert and designer Dave Grossman released a new game in the franchise called Return to Monkey Island. It once again stars pirate Guybrush Threepwood as he clashes with LeChuck while trying to find the secret of Monkey Island. Return to Monkey Island plays well on a controller for a point-and-click adventure game and still sports the classic humor in writing and puzzle design that made the originals iconic.
