3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (July 26-28)

July continues to be an all-killer, no-filler month for Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft’s subscription service is receiving comparatively fewer games throughout July than it got in previous months of the year and is facing backlash over an expensive price hike. That said, every new game coming to service this month is worthwhile, with many of them also being added to the service on the day of their release. This week, Microsoft hit another big Xbox Game Pass milestone because a Call of Duty game came to the service for the first time ever. If you’re wondering what games you should play this weekend, these new additions to Xbox Game Pass are worth your attention.

The long-awaited arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on Xbox Game Pass is finally here. This is the most recent Call of Duty game at the time I’m writing this, and it delivers a story-driven campaign, zombie mode, and multiplayer that players can sink a ton of time into. It’s inferior to some other recent Call of Duty games, but it’s still a big deal that it’s on Xbox Game Pass and worth some playtime, as subscribers don’t have to be concerned with spending $70. Hopefully, more Call of Duty games come to the subscription service soon. The PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III as well as its Cross-Gen Bundle for Xbox One and Xbox Series X are now on Xbox Game Pass. It’s not playable via Xbox Cloud Gaming yet because Ubisoft technically owns those rights, and it’s still available for purchase on PS4 and PS5.

On the Soulslike front, A44 and Kepler Interactive’s Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn became part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog the day it launched this month. It provides a unique take on the well-trodden action RPG formula with faster-paced gameplay that emphasizes movement and platforming more than usual. Players also have a flintlock gun and magical creature named Enki with them at all times, and both of them are very useful in fights as well. A self-prescribed “Soulslite,” you may still have a good time with Flintlock even if you don’t typically enjoy the genre. Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is available across PC, console, and cloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It’s also on PS5.

If you’re wondering what indie game you should play this weekend, Magical Delicacy is a recent Xbox Game Pass addition that’s worth checking out. In this game, players manage a shop where they cook food and concoct a potion for patrons and explore a quaint yet mysterious town called Grat. It provides wholesome vibes, tells a relatable story about self-discovery, and ties its Metroidvania and cooking elements together in a creative way. Magical Delicacy is available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and cloud. It will come to Nintendo Switch on August 15.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games you should play this weekend
Aliens: Dark Descent key art.

It's Black Friday weekend, so there's a good chance that you just picked up an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S and are planning to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Standard. If so, you'll need to decide what you should play first. While first-party games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 or Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are good choices, some other new Xbox Game Pass titles are also worth your time this weekend.
Aliens: Dark Descent

If you've been on an Aliens kick this year thanks to Alien: Romulus and the announcement that Alien Isolation is finally getting a sequel, then you'll want to check out Aliens: Dark Descent. This is a real-time strategy game where players control a small squad of Colonial Marines dispatched to Planet Lethe to take care of a Xenomorph threat. It's a tense, exhilarating title that finds a middle ground between the bombastic shootouts of Aliens: Fireteam Elite and the quiet horror of Alien: Isolation. Aliens: Dark Descent flew under the radar when it launched last year, so I'm happy it has another chance at notoriety by getting added to Game Pass.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (November 22-24)
A cockpit view in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

While November has been a quieter month for Xbox Game Pass, this week saw three games launch on Xbox to the benefit of Game Pass subscribers. One is the latest entry in Microsoft's longest-running video game series, another is the long-awaited sequel to a supernatural horror cult classic, and the last one is a popular fantasy MMO that has finally made its way to Xbox Series X/S with bonuses for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. If you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, but aren't sure what you should be playing this weekend, these are the three most obvious choices.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 – Xbox Games Showcase 2024

Before Microsoft started releasing video game consoles, it made flight simulators. This storied hardcore flying simulation franchise is getting a new entry this year, aptly named Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The latest entry in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series builds upon the strong foundation of its revival in 2020. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 not only sees improved environmental simulation, visuals, and physics, but lots of new content as well. There are now missions where players can participate in aerial firefighting, search and research, and more. While the appeal of simulators like this one is someone niche, those looking for a new flight simulator will adore this game.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (November 15-17)
Spyro in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

November is shaping up to be a quieter month for Xbox Game Pass than October, but some solid titles are still hitting Microsoft's game subscription service. This week, the three recent additions I'm recommending all have one thing in common: You don't play as humans in them. If you want to let out some steam and relax this weekend, become a dragon, goat, or turnip and cause some mayhem in these games.

All Scaled Up Reveal Trailer | Spyro™ Reignited Trilogy | Spyro the Dragon

Following in the footsteps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and two StarCraft games, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is the latest Activision Blizzard title to finally make its way to Xbox Game Pass. Developed by the now independent Toys for Bob, this is a remake collection of the first three games in the Spyro series: Spyro the Dragon, Sypro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Those were excellent innovative 3D platforms on PS1 and faithfully re-created by Toys for Bob with vibrant new visuals for the Reignited Trilogy. Spyro has yet to get a new current-gen game like Crash Bandicoot, so check this out if you want to show Xbox and Activision that there's demand for more.
