PlayStation Plus is adding the Yakuza series. Here are what tiers you’ll need

PlayStation has revealed it will be adding all eight mainline Yakuza games to PlayStation Plus throughout the rest of the year, starting in August.

Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be added first into the service next month. Later in the year, Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, and Yakuza 6: Song of Life will be included too.

The revamped PlayStation Plus service has three different tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. The availability of the Yakuza games is spread among them, so it can be a bit confusing, but here is the list as follows:

Essential: Yakuza: Like a Dragon
Extra: Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 6
Premium: Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered

PlayStation has also announced the three monthly free games that will be included in the Essential tier for August. The aforementioned Yakuza: Like a Dragon is one of them, along with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and Little Nightmares.

It’s finally time that the Yakuza games joined PlayStation’s subscription service, as the series has been on Xbox Game Pass for a good while now. With Yakuza: Like a Dragon joining August 2022’s PlayStation Plus lineup, it’s interesting timing as earlier this month, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku gave us the first glimpse at Yakuza 8.

While Yakuza 8 has been confirmed to be in development, the game hasn’t been officially revealed just yet. There are two upcoming game showcases in the near future, which are Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom. It’s possible we could see Yakuza 8‘s first official trailer at either conference.

3 underrated PS Plus games to play this weekend (July 26-28)

If you're looking for something to play this weekend, you should try out one of these three underrated games from the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog. The first game is an RPG remake from Square Enix that can prepare you for one of August's biggest game launches. Then there's an enjoyable racing game from EA that you should check out before it leaves PS Plus next month. Finally, I recommend a remake collection of two cult classic platformers from Bandai Namco Entertainment that are worth your time if you've never played them before.
Trials of Mana

Trials of Mana is the 2020 remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, an SNES sequel to Secrets of Mana from the 1990s that never came out in North America. Next month, this long-running RPG series will continue with the release of Visions of Mana, so you should check out this RPG with action elements beforehand so you can understand the foundation upon which Visions of Mana is building. The fact that you can start the game with one of six different protagonists gives it replay value as well. Make sure you play the PS4 version of Trials of Mana through PS Plus Extra before it leaves the service on August 20. It's also available on PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

A new batch of PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games dropped this week. Like Xbox Game Pass, this will probably go down as one of the best weeks for the video game subscription service this year. Its lineup offers a solid mix of modern games, retro classics, and more experimental titles. For this week's PlayStation Plus recommendations, I've hand-picked the three games new to the service that I think are worth your time.

The first is a roguelike looter shooter that gives every player a procedurally generated campaign, even down to the order narrative beats occur. Next up is a PSP strategy game from Level-5 that just got new life with a PS4 and PS5 remaster. Finally, those deeply ingrained in the video game industry will enjoy a No More Heroes spinoff that just came to Sony's subscription service.

You’ll have 2 chances to try PlayStation’s Concord this July

Concord, PlayStation's upcoming PvP hero shooter, is one step closer to releasing, with two beta periods now set for July ahead of its August 23 launch.

This will be the first time many people will get to play the game, although those who preorder it will have a bit of an advantage. The company, along with developer Firewalk Studios, announced on Thursday that the first beta period, from July 12-14, will be for those who preorder the game and up to four of their friends. This will be followed by an open beta from July 18-21. Both betas will be for PlayStation 5 and PC, and crossplay will be enabled.
