What to expect from CEDIA Expo, the hottest home entertainment show of 2013

CEDIA is not your typical electronics expo, and that’s a really good thing. CEDIA is a show built for the people who put the coolest technology on the planet into real people’s homes. The show is aimed at professional installers and custom integrators with the smarts and the know-how needed to take a thousand little parts, get them all talking to each other, and make everything work like magic.

At CEDIA, you won’t find multiple rows of vendors showing off a million different iPad cases, or the 6.3-inch version of the 6.1-inch Phablet that was just launched two months ago. What you will find are weather-proof HDTV’s that can take a beating, 4K video walls, the latest high-performance A/V components, and some of the craziest home entertainment stuff you’ve never heard of.

That’s why Digital Trends is in Denver, Colorado, for CEDIA 2013, which kicks off today. We’re going to get you up close and personal with the technologies that are designed to make your life easier and a whole lot more fun. This year, we expect some big news and new products from the likes of Sony, Bang and Olufsen, Sunbrite TV, Paradigm, JVC, and LG. Plan to see a lot of 4K everything, the newest A/V receivers, more sound bars than you can shake a stick at, wireless audio systems, and the latest in whole-home control (we’re pretty sure tablets and smart phones will be involved).

Check back later today for our coverage of the CEDIA Media Preview event, where we’ll get an early look at the things to come later this week.

What to expect from Amazon’s September 2020 event
amazon event 2019 meet the family

Amazon's annual fall event is on the way, and the rumor mills have begun to spin as people try to guess what new tech the retail giant will launch. Invites to the event have been sent out to select media (us included), so we're eager to know what's on the docket. With few details on what Amazon has planned, anything is possible. If it follows last year's event, we should be in for a huge announcement that covers the entire Amazon ecosystem.
When is the event?
Amazon has officially announced the event for at 10 a.m. PT on September 24, but it's worth noting that the event will be "invite only." There will be no public stream available to watch.
New Alexa speakers
Amazon has a proven history of releasing updates to its Amazon Echo line of smart speakers and smart displays. For example, the 2019 fall Amazon event saw the launch of the Amazon Echo Studio, the company's newest, high-end speaker. Its superior focus on audio quality appealed to users that sought a speaker capable of more than mid-range audio and smart home control.

Most exciting TVs of 2025 – from CES
most exciting 2025 tvs

Now that I’m back at home and I’ve washed the Vegas off of me and out of my clothes, I’m looking back on the absolute nut-fest that was CES. It was somewhat like a big family reunion.

There is the family of journalists running around trying to scoop each other, skipping dinner and fun parties to type frantically late into the night; the family of YouTubers armed with cameras and caffeine and, ultimately, cocktails; and the family of brand reps we’ve come to know over the years whose feet definitely hurt as much as everyone else’s, but you won’t hear them complaining about it.

If you want to take your living-room gaming setup to the next level, then upgrading to one of the best gaming TVs can make the world of difference. Sure, you could just pick one of the best TVs overall, as most of them have excellent pictures and fantastic gaming features, but they're not all quite as good as the very best models for gaming.

But the best gaming TVs are also some of the best TVs you can buy. Many of our favorites are some of the best OLED TVs as they're just so fast and responsive and have incredible picture quality. The best QLED TVs are great picks too, though, with their sky-high brightness and punchy pictures making them perfect for bright-room gaming.
