Original Programming Coming to Xbox 360

Microsoft is looking to spice up its Xbox Live online entertainment service with original video programming. According to reports in The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and elsewhere, Microsoft has inked a deal with Hollywood’s Safran Co. to form a new company, Safran Digital, to produce short form, original scripted programming that will appear on the Xbox Live service. Microsoft sees this deal as “the first of many,” with the first shows to debut this summer.

The first spate of shows will be scripted, short form pieces that will probably run under 10 minutes apiece. The initial programming wil cater to Xbox Live’s predominantly young, male demographic, with offerings likely to focus on comedy, horror, and extreme sports. Safran COO Jake Zim has apparently described the on-screen talent as “significant” but declined to reveal any casting deals. Initially, the shows will be exclusively available on the Xbox 360 network, but may eventually appear in other venues. Neither company has disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

You'll soon no longer need an Xbox console if you have an Amazon Fire TV. Microsoft and Amazon announced Thursday that the Xbox app is coming to Fire TV devices in July.

The Xbox app works with Cloud Gaming, which means with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you can stream a huge catalog of games from the Xbox library, including many first- and third-party titles that come to the service on launch day. Huge games like Starfield, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, and the Fallout series are just some examples, and the available games are always changing.

Tidal officially kills MQA support, and tosses out Sony 360 Reality Audio too
Tidal and MQA logos separated by a broken heart.

Ever since Tidal announced that it would begin adding hi-res lossless FLAC tracks to its library, we've known that, sooner or later, the service would kill off MQA support entirely. That day, according to an email sent by Tidal to subscribers (and first noted by TechRadar), is July 24.

What was less expected is the news that Tidal will also be ending support for Sony's 360 Reality Audio (360RA) format on the same day. 360RA is a spatial audio format that has been not-s0-successfully competing with Dolby Atmos Music.
