India’s largest smartphone manufacturer, Micromax, already made a splash in December of last year when it announced the CyanogenMod-powered Yu Yureka. Now, the company is at it again with the Yu Yunique, reports Pocketnow.
Much like with the Yureka before it, the Yunique is the result of Micromax’s exclusive partnership in India with Cyanogen, the folks behind CyanogenMod, a somewhat forked version of Android that gives you more leeway with the mobile operating system. With the Yunique, we’re looking at a 4.7-inch, 1,280 x 720 resolution display on the front with Gorilla Glass 3 protecting the display from scratches and scuffs.
Powering the phone is a quad-core, 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. Even though there’s only 8GB of internal storage to be found, it can be expanded by up to 32GB through the Micro SD card slot. In addition, you’ll find a 2-megapixel camera on the front and an 8-megapixel snapper on the back.
Keeping the lights on is a 2,000mAh battery, while the Yunique offers dual SIM card and 4G LTE support. Finally, the phone runs CyanogenMod 12.1, which is based on Android 5.1.1.
What makes the Yunique, well, unique is exactly how much you’re getting for the $75 price tag, a price that is sure to make customers think twice about getting a phone like the Moto E, or even the Moto G. After all, even though the 4G version of the Moto E packs similar internals, apart from a lower-resolution display, it will cost you around 6,999 rupees, or around $105, in India.
Unfortunately, the Yu Yunique will only be available to Indian customers through Snapdeal, with no news as to whether the phone will be available in other markets. Regardless, it’s remarkable how much phone you’re getting with the Yunique without even coming close to breaking the bank.
