T-Mobile lets Galaxy S4 release date slip, says it’s coming May 1

samsung-galaxy-s4-be-ready-4-next-galaxyT-Mobile’s packed event revealed not only its new tariffs, the BlackBerry Z10, the Apple iPhone 5 and a new 4G LTE network, but also a sweet little nugget of unexpected information – the Samsung Galaxy S4’s release date on the network. After teasing the assembled press corps with the presence of the Galaxy S4, and that it would be available for testing the new 4G LTE network after the presentation, T-Mobile’s Mike Seger said the phone would be ready to buy on May 1.

The Galaxy S4 was announced earlier this month and hasn’t been given a release date, with most networks in the UK – where it’s expected to be released before the U.S. – still recommending interested buyers should register to find out more. Samsung hadn’t confirmed anything other than an end of April release, and few expected that to apply to the U.S.

So, May 1 is a happy surprise, and the new tariffs could make T-Mobile a very good choice for anyone wanting to grab Samsung’s latest flagship phone. The price hasn’t been confirmed, but as the Z10 and iPhone 5 will both cost $100 followed by 24 monthly payments of about $20, we’re quietly confident it’ll be the same situation for the Galaxy S4. Aside from the release date, no other information was given, so don’t go looking for a pre-order page just yet.

The Galaxy S4 wasn’t the only new device to be teased either, as T-Mobile will also sell the HTC One, and it’s confirmed as another $100 device, but no release date was provided. The HTC One has suffered a few delays already, however HTC says it’s back on track for a late April debut.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S25 going to be more expensive? It’s complicated
A violet Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus lying face-down on a shelf.

In our continuing quest to chronicle the release of the Samsung Galaxy S25, we wrote yesterday about how it might end up being more expensive than the previous generation. However, now we're seeing other information that suggests the situation is far from that simple. Instead, multiple regions throughout the world could have different prices — but it looks like the base Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Plus will remain the same price as their direct predecessors, at least in European markets.

The base Galaxy S25 will start at 899 euros (the same as the Samsung Galaxy S24) for the 128GB model and 959 euros for the 256GB model, according to WinFuture. The Galaxy S25 Plus will start at 1,149 euros for the 256GB model and jump to 1,269 euros for the 512GB version. That's the same as the last generation, so no price jumps there.

The next major smartphone release is approaching quickly. According to tipster Abhishek Yadav (via SamMobile), Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy S25 series on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. While earlier rumors suggested that the actual date might be January 23, it’s clear that the arrival of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra is imminent.

It is not yet known whether January 22 is the date when Samsung will announce the new phones at an Unpacked event or if it is the official launch date. Earlier this year, the company announced the Galaxy S24 series on January 17, with a release date set for January 31.

Rumors of a potential Galaxy S25 Slim have been swirling for a while now, with more evidence emerging, drops at a time, from various leakers. Now, another leak suggests the upcoming model might have more in its favor than just a slim design.

Known tipster Ice Universe shared a post on X that the Galaxy S25 Slim would have an upgraded and improved camera beyond what the base Galaxy S25 has. That's exciting news, but it could also mean the reported camera changes coming to the Galaxy S25 just aren't that impressive. The primary and periscope telephoto lenses are expected to remain the same as those on the Galaxy S24, with an upgrade potentially coming to its third camera.
