Cases leaked for the Galaxy S7 — no USB Type-C in sight

Rumors are abundant in regards to Samsung’s coming flagship Galaxy S7. Four different models are said to be arriving in March —  less than four months from now. It’s been speculated that the manufacturer will let their larger Galaxy Note series adopt the Plus name from their Edge counterparts. Instead of a Galaxy Note 6, we might see Galaxy S7 Plus. Today a leak of phone cases for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Plus further strengthens these rumors.

The purported picures of these cases have leaked out of China. It might not be a confirmation on the two phones’ final design, but it might indicate what to expect. Leaks like this one are commonplace for Samsung and other high-end manufacturers. Most noteable is the lack of a USB Type-C port at the bottom; instead we see a Micro USB port. One writer from the site says that the cases will be available for order in January. A USB Type-C port with USB 3.1 technology allows for both faster transfer speeds and charging.

Hardware specifications for the Galaxy S7 are rumored to come in two different versions: one with a Snapdragon 820 and another with Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 processor. Recent leaked benchmarks from the device suggests these rumors are true. Its GPU is supposedly an Adreno 530, supported by 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. Those same specifications suggested it sticks to the Galaxy S6’s 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

The camera is a major point of discussion for the community. While the previously mentioned rumors give us an idea of what might come, other rumors are also circulating. One rumor from November says that the phone will either come equipped with a 12MP lens equipped with a more light sensitive sensor at 1/2.0” and dual-PD (dual-photodiode) technology. This could be an indication towards a trademark filed by Samsung for something called Britecell. Considering the seeming play on words that are obviously reminiscent of “Bright cell,” it goes well with the rumor and brings some credibility.

Further murmurings suggests that Samsung wants to make use of both its own 20-megapixel sensor and Sony’s IMX300 at 23 megapixel. Finally, there’s a rumor that the Galaxy S7 will use a dual-camera array with two different sensors; one sensor for color and another for light.

Samsung’s latest model is also believed to be the first release in a yearly flagship release cycle for the manufacturer.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7’s biggest change may be hidden inside the phone
A person putting the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 in their pocket.

Significant changes may be on the horizon for Samsung’s upcoming foldable handsets next year. Once again, we’re hearing that the company intends to use in-house chips for two foldable devices set to launch in 2025. If this is accurate, it would be groundbreaking news.

Since their initial model launches, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip have included Qualcomm chips. For example, the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. If Samsung stuck with tradition, the 2025 Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 would include a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset — the chip we expect to see in Samsung’s Galaxy S25 lineup, which should be announced in the coming weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 release date may have leaked

The next major smartphone release is approaching quickly. According to tipster Abhishek Yadav (via SamMobile), Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy S25 series on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. While earlier rumors suggested that the actual date might be January 23, it’s clear that the arrival of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra is imminent.

It is not yet known whether January 22 is the date when Samsung will announce the new phones at an Unpacked event or if it is the official launch date. Earlier this year, the company announced the Galaxy S24 series on January 17, with a release date set for January 31.

Samsung is going to enter 2025 with more force than the Kool-Aid Man through a brick wall. The company has its next flagship ready to go with an estimated release date of January 22, the launch of One UI 7 around the same time, and even the addition of a fourth device to its lineup. Here's the good news: Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold SE, the long-rumored Galaxy S25 Slim will be receiving an international launch.

There's no official word on this from Samsung, at least not in the form of a press statement. Instead, the model number gives it away. Someone spotted a new Samsung device with the model number SM-S937B, according to SamMobile. To most people, that number won't mean much at all — but we already know that the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup has the model numbers SM-S9931x, SM0S936x, and SM-S938X. The fact that SM-S937B is part of the same sequence indicates it's part of the same family. As for the "X," that will be replaced by a "U" in the United States.
