Video-editing app LumaFusion to get a Galaxy Tab S8 launch

Popular mobile video-editing app LumaFusion, which has been available to exclusive to Apple devices ever since it was first published, is branching out. The editing app will be making the jump to Android devices at some point in the “first half of 2022,” according to a Samsung press release showcasing the new Galaxy Tab S8 Series.

Because LumaFusion is so well-reviewed on iOS, the launch of the video-editing app on the Galaxy S8 Series is a good sign for Samsung’s newest tablets. Unfortunately, fans will need to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on it as LumaTouch has yet to confirm a release date other than the vague window of the first half of 2022. While it’s certainly exciting that LumaFusion will be available on Android devices, the release window announcement shouldn’t come as too much of a shock for anyone following the app as it’s been in beta testing for Android and Chrome OS since last year.

As Samsung has continued upping its tablet game in terms of performance, the addition of LumaFusion to its app library seems to be a step toward making the Galaxy Tab S8 and S8 Plus must-have devices for creatives, a move that’s in line with the company’s push for its new tablets to be a more creator-friendly platform. The general consensus surrounding tablets used for professional and recreational creatives leans far in the favor of iPads, however, LumaFusion’s jump to Android might be showing signs that Samsung is finally breaking through in the tablet landscape.

LumaFusion currently costs $30 on iOS, but LumaTouch hasn’t confirmed what the app will cost when it launches on Android devices later in 2022. In addition to the Android version, LumaFusion will also be coming to Chrome OS, but there hasn’t been an update on the app’s Chrome development since last year.

The Samsung Galaxy S25’s release date is all but confirmed
The back of the yellow Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

We've speculated a lot on when the Samsung Galaxy S25 will officially launch, and there have been no small number of rumors. Now, though, we have everything but an official announcement as a leaked event poster states that Galaxy Unpacked will be held on January 22, 2025.

Evan Blass, a tipster with a reliable and proven track record, first shared the information on X. Since the initial post, the image has been removed due to a copyright claim, but you can see what it looked like below. The date on the poster lines up with previous leaks that also place the event on January 22, giving us almost a guarantee on the date.

Bad news, Samsung fans. The Galaxy S25 series might get a price increase

The Samsung Galaxy S25's rumored launch date is just over a month away, but leaks still pour in seemingly every day. Unfortunately, the latest bears bad news: a potential price hike. The Galaxy S25 price may rise by roughly 150,000 won (around $105 USD), according to The JoongAng newspaper. The South Korean Won (KRW) has weakened compared to the USD (and currently sits at around 1,432 won to 1 USD), which means higher costs for importing components, according to Yonhap News, a South Korean news site.

The average price of Samsung devices is lower in foreign markets compared to Korea, but a major change in the home market pricing will spill over into foreign pricing, too. The recent political turmoil in South Korea, paired with increased exchange rates, is apparently driving the potential increase. The Samsung Galaxy S24 launched at $800 for the base model. The potential price increase means the Galaxy S25 could start at $900 or higher. Following that trend, we could see a starting price of $1,000 for the Galaxy S25 Plus and $1,400 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The S24 Ultra was already $100 more expensive than the previous generation.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is due to release in less than three months, but we're still locking down details as information emerges. Now, a new video of the supposed Galaxy S25 Ultra has appeared on Reddit, demonstrating the phone's design and layout. In a not-surprising twist, it bears a striking resemblance to the dummy units that leaked a couple of months ago.

The video popped up on the Samsung Galaxy subreddit by a user who has since deleted their account. Take this information with enough salt for your pasta water; without a way to verify this information, we can't tell whether this video is trustworthy. However, the evidence leans heavily in its favor.
