One of my favorite smart rings is a must-buy thanks to Cyber Week

If you are like me and want the advantages of a smartwatch but dislike notifications on your wrist, a smart ring might be the perfect device for you. However, owning a smart ring can cost a lot, especially when smart rings like the Oura Ring come with a recurring subscription.

The RingConn Smart Ring is different. I love the Gen 1 version for three reasons: long battery life, a comfortable design, and a portable charging case. It was a good deal with a $259 retail price, but it faced tough competition from more established companies.

However, thanks to a Cyber Monday sale that seems to be sticking around for Cyber Week, the price is down to just $169 on Amazon and the RingConn website. It’s an incredible savings, and it makes now the perfect time to finally jump on board the smart ring bandwagon.

Why I like the RingConn Gen 1 so much

I’ve tested smart rings from Ultrahuman, Amazfit, RingConn, and more. RingConn is my value pick, while Ultrahuman’s Ring Air offers a better app experience.

That said, RingConn’s Smart Ring offers a better ownership experience thanks to its lightweight form factor with flat sides and portable charging case. Both these hardware benefits have proven to make it a better travel companion.

The RingConn Smart Ring Gen 1 consistently gave me six days of battery life before I opted for the Gen 2, which has up to two weeks of battery life. The Gen 1 weighs less than the competition and is more comfortable to wear. In comparison, the Amazfit Helio Ring feels too thick, and the Ultrahuman Ring Air sits between the two.

RingConn’s portable charger is a better choice than a dock because I can charge the ring when needed without access to a plug. I don’t need to be mindful of a small dock and ring placement to ensure it’s charging — the physical markers on the Smart Ring Gen 1 make docking and charging easy.

Moreover, there’s no extra charge. The app offers all the features for free without asking for subscription charges. You spend the retail price, and the ring is yours with all the functions available.

The only downside is delayed notifications from the app. You need to open the app every morning to sync the data. The syncing speed has improved over time, but there’s still work to be done. The app design is good, and the metrics are easy to understand, but you need to open it to sync daily.

This is the time to finally get a smart ring

The RingConn Smart Ring Gen 1 is available for a $90 discount for $169 at Amazon. But you can get it for $160 by entering the code Z49DEB47 at checkout. If you want to buy from the RingConn website, you can enter DGT10 and get it for $159. It will also give you a free ring protector.

If you want a lighter, more comfortable smart ring that lasts longer and has sleep apnea detection functionality, the RingConn Smart Ring Gen 2 can be bought for a $15 discount with code DGT15 on the company’s website. These offers are valid until December 8, 2024.

The best smart rings in 2025
The Oura Ring 4's inner covering.

While smartwatches like the Apple Watch Series 10 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra dominate the wearable tech scene, a new contender is steadily gaining traction: the smart ring. These unobtrusive devices offer a compelling alternative for those seeking a more discreet way to track their health and fitness.

Despite not yet matching the full functionality of their wrist-worn counterparts, smart rings boast an impressive array of features, including activity tracking, sleep monitoring, and even heart rate measurement. Their minimalist design and unparalleled comfort make them an appealing option for individuals who find smartwatches bulky or intrusive.

Cost-cutting strips Pixel 9a of the best Gemini AI features in Pixel 9
Person holds Pixel 9a in hand while sitting in a car.

The Pixel 9a has been officially revealed, and while it's an eye candy, there are some visible cutbacks over the more premium Pixel 9 and 9 Pro series phones. The other cutbacks we don't see include lower RAM than the Pixel 9 phones, which can limit the new mid-ranger's ability to run AI applications, despite running the same Tensor G4 chipset.

Google's decision to limit the RAM to 8GB, compared to the 12GB on the more premium Pixel 9 phones, sacrifices its ability to run certain AI tasks locally. ArsTechnica has reported that as a result of the cost-cutting, Pixel 9a runs an "extra extra small" or XXS variant -- instead of the "extra small" variant on Pixel 9 -- of the Gemini Nano 1.0 model that drives on-device AI functions.

After much speculation in recent months, the Google Pixel 9a has finally been announced. Google's Pixel A series is an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable Android smartphone at a lower price point, and the latest model follows this trend. While it is undeniably part of the Google Pixel 9 series, it has fewer features than its higher-end counterparts.

One question you might have when considering the Pixel 9a is whether it comes with a charger. We’ve got the answer
The Pixel 9a does not come with a charger.
The short answer is that the Pixel 9a does not have a charger. This has become common practice for most smartphones today, including other models in the Pixel 9 series, like the Pixel 9 Pro. While this may be disappointing, it's not surprising.
