OnePlus promises 60-minute delivery in Bengaluru, India or you get the phone for free

OnePlus took a page out of Pizza Hut’s playbook with another PR stunt in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru. Anyone who waits more than 60 minutes after ordering the OnePlus One will receive the phone for free, reports Mashable. The company seems pretty confident in its delivery team, and OnePlus may even extend the promotion to other cities if it goes well.

No doubt, some in Bengaluru will take up the challenge just to see if they can win a free phone, especially if they live in a location that’s difficult to find. OnePlus has not said how it will confirm if the delivery was more than an hour long, but we suspect the payment will be refunded if the customer complains.

The one-hour delivery campaign is just one of many promotional campaigns in the region, where OnePlus is trying to establish its brand. Last year, it had trouble entering the country, due to Cyanogen’s partnership with Micromax. OnePlus was forced to withdraw the phones with Cyanogen’s OS installed and build its own Android skin.

The company relaunched in India shortly after with a refreshed OnePlus One, running Oxygen OS, a light reskin of stock Android. The OnePlus 2 is also available in India through the invite system. The company currently has a Twitter promotion where people send in tweets, photos, and videos of what they’re willing to do for the phone — the winners receive the phone and 10 invites for friends.

Xiaomi is also trying to win over customers with its Mi 4i, a local exclusive. Both companies have run online flash sales over the past year, which have successfully cut Apple and Samsung out of the region. Micromax remains the favorite in the area however, launching the online-only YU smartphone earlier this year in partnership with Cyanogen.

Is lucky number 13 a charm? For the well-received OnePlus flagship phone, it certainly seems that way. The OnePlus 13 is now available worldwide and boasts impressive features for Android enthusiasts.

However, with every new iteration of a popular tech product — especially one that appears to check all the boxes, such as an AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and an affordable price — there are always questions about what changes have been made to keep the model competitive. In the case of the OnePlus 13, an Android phone competing with heavyweights like Samsung's Galaxy lineup, it's crucial to understand what features it includes or lacks before purchasing.
