Oppo Find X5 Pro gets flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor

Oppo’s flagship Find X3 Pro was released in March 2021 to great reviews. Now, the next device rumored to be the Oppo Find X5 Pro is expected to release this March. Sources have suggested that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which is Snapdragon’s most powerful processor yet.

Interestingly, it seems likely that there will be no Oppo Find X4 Pro as the number 4 is not considered to be lucky in Chinese. The number is considered to be nearly homophonous to the word “death” in Cantonese. The details of the upcoming handset were leaked by Digital Chat Station and Abhishek Yadav, two well-known tipsters in the digital arena. Meanwhile, a tipster called OnLeaks, shared the first photos of the phone below.

The leaked details have revealed that the smartphone will have a QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which is standard for most flagship phones. The colors of the model are unknown at this point. However, the device is expected to feature a triple camera array at the back. The main camera would have a 50-megapixel sensor, and the ultrawide camera next to it will have the same sensor resolution. The leaks revealed that the 50MP cameras would be Sony IMX766 sensors, which also powered the Realme GT 2 and Xiaomi 12 ranges of smartphones. The final rear camera will top out at 13MP. A 32MP selfie camera will complete the camera array.

The phone will have a 5,000mAh battery coupled with 80 watts of fast wired charging, as well as 50W of fast wireless charging, It hasn’t been revealed yet if there will be multiple variants and we don’t know pricing either.

Oppo earlier announced several new products at the “Oppo Inno Day” event in mid-December 2021. The company officially integrated with OnePlus last year, and the pair are currently working on a wide range of devices. Additionally, their respective operating systems, Oxygen OS and Color OS, will have their own branding, but they will have the same code and be developed by the same unified team. All this means that the new features and software we get on the Oppo Find X5 Pro are likely to come to the next OnePlus flagship device as well.

Qualcomm has a new wearable chip for smartwatches. Actually, there are two of them. They're the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and W5+ Gen 1, and Qualcomm thinks they're the next big revolution in smartwatch chipsets.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. The Snapdragon Wear 3100 from 2018 was also supposed to supercharge Wear OS watches and take them to the next level. But beyond some fairly modest battery improvements, performance on the Wear 3100 left a lot to be desired. And 2020's Wear 4100 and Wear 4100+ chips weren't much better. Qualcomm again made some battery improvements and performance gains, but seldom few smartwatches actually adopted the 4100 platform. A handful of watches from Mobvoi and Fossil use a 4100-series chip, and that's about it. Samsung's Galaxy Watch lineup is using Exynos chips, and rumors even suggest Google's Pixel Watch will do the same.

The promises of Android 13 are enough to get any Android user excited, but Oppo smartphone owners won't have to wait to see what the next major update to the operating system has in store. The Find N is Oppo's flagship foldable and already supports the Android 13 Beta 1 for users in China while the Find X5 Pro supports the first beta across the globe.

Although it's certainly exciting to have the chance to try out the Android 13 Beta on a regular smartphone, Google showcased the software update's focus on tablets and foldables at the company's I/O keynote yesterday. Specifically, the Find N was highlighted during the presentation and now owners will be able to see what the big deal is for themselves.

Phone clones: Latest from Oppo, Realme, OnePlus share DNA

Over the last six weeks or so I’ve reviewed the Realme GT 2 Pro, followed by the Oppo Find X5 Pro, and finally the OnePlus 10 Pro, meaning I've gone back-to-back with the latest devices created by companies that are all part of the BBK Electronics empire. They all have different names, but just how different are the devices really?

The answer is that they are not, apart from in the minds of marketing teams, and this should be of great concern to OnePlus and Oppo, but not so much to Realme. But these three manufacturers don't complete the picture because to paraphrase Yoda, there is also another.
Oh, so similar
Barely a year ago the separation between these three companies was far clearer. Oppo was like Samsung, a company making high-quality devices at all different prices, and with a clear flagship product at the top. Realme was a related brand selling great value phones that shared some of the technology and software found in Oppo phones. OnePlus was the outlier -- a recognizable global brand with a strong following that did things differently from Oppo and Realme. You really had to be told the three were vaguely related.
