Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 is reportedly launching August 10

A new leak has surfaced saying that a lot of new Samsung hardware will all be launching on the same day in August. According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4, a new lavender-colored Galaxy S22, Watch 5, and the long-awaited Watch 5 Pro will all be announced and made available for pre-order on August 10 before launching on August 26.

The report comes from known leaker Jon Prosser, who’s provided plenty of prerelease information in the past. As with all leakers, there’s a chance his information may be incorrect (Apple Watch Series 7, anyone?). However, it lines up with when one would expect Samsung to launch its foldables. The company has held a summer Unpacked event every year for the past few years — with the Z Fold and Z Flip lines recently becoming staples after the demise of the Note line. If the report is true, then Samsung will hold its Unpacked on August 10 either virtually, or as a limited in-person event à la Apple’s WWDC keynote, with preorders opening shortly after and products shipping about two weeks later.

Although Samsung hasn’t officially announced its summer event, it has confirmed that it would be launching foldables in the second half of the year. “We are currently all hands on deck regarding preparing the new foldable model scheduled for launch in the second half,” Sung-Koo Kim, vice president of Samsung Mobile, said in April. Looking at last year’s August Unpacked, all of the devices listed in the leak would fit the bill for an Unpacked Event this year as well.

As for what’s new this year, the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip 4 are reported to be minor upgrades over the previous ones. The Fold 4 is said to come with a refined camera system, while the Flip 4 reportedly gets a bigger outer display. Both are expected to get improved hinges, the usual spec bumps, and a massive 1TB internal storage option. The new Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a curious outlier since Samsung hasn’t had a “Pro”-branded watch before, but the company has never quite been consistent with its smartwatch branding.

Samsung just teased two folding phones we can’t wait for
A person holding the open Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Foldable phones, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, are gaining in popularity. However, their high prices may deter many potential buyers. Samsung seems aware of this issue and plans to eventually introduce foldable models aimed at the lower end of the market.

On X (formerly Twitter), leaker @Jukanlosreve says that a Samsung executive recently highlighted the need to expand the reach of foldable phones. In a conference call, they noted that the company is “considering ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products, given the high satisfaction among existing foldable users.”

We just got an early tease for Samsung’s next folding phones
Samsung Galaxy AI on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Samsung, like most other phone manufacturers, sticks to a pretty predictable schedule: a new numbered iteration per model per year. That's why we weren't surprised to hear that a Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 were slated for 2025, but we now have confirmation. Their codenames just leaked, and we also learned of an unexpected third model.

GalaxyClub broke the news after receiving information from Samsung. According to the site, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is code-named B7, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is code-named Q7. There's also a third model with the code name Q7M, but it's not clear what this entry actually is. Since it bears a derivative code name, this handset is likely a spinoff of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 — though we don't know what that entails.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is slimmer, yet more powerful

Samsung has just pulled a bit of a surprise by giving a svelte design makeover to its flagship foldable phone. Earlier today, the company introduced the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in its home market.

The latest foldable phone from Samsung makes a couple of key upgrades in the design and camera departments. First, Samsung has shaved off 1.5 millimeters of thickness compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The weight, however, has only reduced by 3 grams, so it's hardly much of a difference.
