Where to watch 1923, the Yellowstone prequel series with Harrison Ford

What’s the biggest show on television right now? The answer may surprise you. If you look at Twitter, you might think it’s The White Lotus or one of those dreadful Real Housewives reality shows. If you read Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, you may think it’s Wednesday or Dahmer. But how many new shows have spawned an entire fictional universe, with spinoffs more successful than the last?

For five seasons, Yellowstone has been an unexpected hit with audiences. Its first spinoff, 1883, with country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill was also a hit, and so the Yellowstone universe has further expanded with 1923, a new limited series starring Star Wars and Indiana Jones legend Harrison Ford and Academy Award winner Helen Mirren. The show is set for release in December 2022, but where can you watch it?

Is 1923 worth watching?

We’re sold on this show simply because of two reasons: Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. These two acting legends don’t do a lot of TV; in fact, this is Ford’s first leading role on television ever. To see them both living it up in the Prohibition-era west as Jacob and Cara Dutton is immensely appealing and promises to give them both ample opportunity to chew some scenery.

Also, co-creator and writer Taylor Sheridan is a great writer. Remember, prior to Yellowstone, he wrote two of the best thrillers in recent memory: Sicario and Hell or High Water. Even if you’re not a fan of the main Yellowstone series or its spinoff, 1883, you have to admit that the guy knows how to write a good story, and the combination of the leading actors and period setting makes 1923 one of the most anticipated shows of the year.

5 people stand around a living room in Yellowstone.

After a long and tumultuous road, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is finally in sight. Yellowstone season 5, part 2 returns with six new episodes starting very soon. Since the last episode aired in January 2023, Yellowstone has been in the news, mostly for reasons behind the camera, with the biggest storyline being the departure of Kevin Costner as John Dutton.

Regardless of Costner's status, Yellowstone remains as popular as ever and will become a ratings monster over the next month. It begs the question if more seasons of Yellowstone will be commissioned. That's enough about the unknown future. Let's talk about the present, which begins with the premiere episode.

January 1, 2023. That is when the final episode of Yellowstone season 5, part 1 aired. It's been a long time since the Dutton Family has been on Paramount Network, but their hiatus will end in November with the premiere of Yellowstone season 5, part 2.

With filming underway, the Yellowstone cast and crew released a special featurette, taking fans behind the scenes of the upcoming episodes. Everyone involved in the sneak peek reiterated the same two points: the break between parts 1 and 2 has been too long, and the cast is ready to release new episodes.

Another Taylor Sheridan show is heading to Paramount Network. 1923 season 1 will air on Paramount Network on Sunday, December 8, following a new episode of Yellowstone season 5, part 2.

1923 is a prequel to Yellowstone, set in Montana during the Great Depression. Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford star as Cara and Jacob Dutton. Jacob is the older brother of James Dutton, Tim McGraw's character in 1883. Like Yellowstone, 1923 pits the Duttons against rival parties looking to infringe on their land and disrupt their power. "The series will explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west," the synopsis reads.
