Spider-Man gets more attention in the latest Captain America: Civil War trailer

The impending debut of the all-new Spider-Man is one of the big points of interest in Captain America: Civil War, and after appearing in one of the final full-length trailers for the film, the famous webslinger gets even more screen time in a new television spot for the film.

Along with featuring more footage of Spider-Man in action, the new ad for Captain America: Civil War showcases the critical praise the film has already received in early screenings, which has earned it a 97-percent “Fresh” rating on review aggregator RottenTomatoes.com. However, it’s what we see of Spider-Man actor Tom Holland — not the excerpts from reviews — that’s generated quite a bit of buzz for the ad.

Near the end of the television spot, Spider-Man can be seen swinging into action during a battle scene, and kicking Falcon (Anthony Mackie) out of the fray. He then stops a punch thrown by Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), only to remark (as only Spider-Man can), “You have a metal arm? That is awesome, dude!”

Along with Mackie, Stan, and Holland, Captain America: Civil War also features the debut of Chadwick Boseman as African superhero Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo. They’re joined by returning Marvel movie-verse stars Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Bettany as Vision, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Frank Grillo as Crossbones.

Set in the aftermath of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the film forces The Avengers to deal with the consequences of their explosive adventures over the course of the first two phases of Marvel’s cinematic universe. Faced with the fallout from their actions, the team finds themselves divided on how to police their future endeavors, and that split turns into an all-out war between the world’s greatest heroes.

Captain America: Civil War is directed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo. The film hits theaters May 6, 2016.

The 5 best comic book sequels ever, ranked
A smiling Catwoman peers through a glass window in Batman Returns.

2023 will be a great year for comic book sequels. Marvel has a full slate, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania this February, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 in May, and The Marvels in July. Not be outdone, DC only has sequels to Aquaman and Shazam as well as The Flash, the Scarlet Speedster's first solo project and a quasi-sequel to the misguided and ultimately disappointed Justice League.

Indeed, the comic book genre is alive and thriving, producing new movies every year and expanding exponentially. However, not all superhero sequels are worthy of acclaim, and not all earn it. Those that do often rank from safe to serviceable, with only a select few transcending their genre's limitations, whether by offering something fresh or by upping the ante and featuring emotional stakes that live up to their larger-than-life premises. From films within the MCU to entries that pre-date the modern superhero boom, these sequels are the very best the comic book genre has to offer.

The best MCU fights, ranked
Thanos gets ready to battle in Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe will launch its highly awaited Phase 5 with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17. Nearly 15 years into its existence, the MCU is still on top of the world, even if it's not exactly as too big to fail as many people had thought. Yet, the sprawling franchise keeps winning, delivering more of the same fan-pleasing spectacle that made it a phenomenon in the first place with each new entry.

A large reason why the MCU is so successful is its larger-than-life action set pieces. Audiences go gaga seeing their favorite superheroes clashing with their favorite supervillains, making their comic book dreams come true. And while it's true that the MCU seldom experiments with its formula -- in fact, the franchise is notorious for actively resisting change -- it does try to change things up when it comes to the action department. From interstellar battles in dilapidated moons to multiverse-breaking sequences against multiple villains, these battles stand out as the most memorable and exciting in the MCU.
