Despicable Me 4 will finally arrive in Summer 2024

It’s been almost half a decade since former mad scientist Gru and his family appeared on the big screen. Unfortunately, that absence is going to going to extend to a full seven years. The good news is that Despicable Me 4 finally has a release date: July 3, 2024.

Via Variety, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment also confirmed that most of the Despicable Me vocal cast will be back for the next sequel. That includes Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, Miranda Cosgrove, and Steve Coogan. Carell, Cosgrove, Coffin, and Wiig have been a part of the franchise since Despicable Me in 2010.

In the first film, Gru (Carell) was a supervillain who adopted three young orphans as part of an evil scheme. However, Margo (Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Elsie Fisher) warmed Gru’s cold heart and he embraced his role as their adoptive father. Wiig had a minor role in the first film before appearing in the sequels as Gru’s girlfriend (and later wife) Lucy Wilde, a member of the Anti-Villain League. Coogan portrays Lucy and Gru’s Anti-Villain League boss, Silas Ramsbottom, while Coffin provides the voices of Gru’s adorable Minions.

Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 director Chris Renaud will co-direct Despicable Me 4 with Patrick Delage from a script by Mike White. Later this year, the prequel movie, Minions: The Rise of Gru, will feature Carell and Coffin in their roles as young Gru and the Minions. Other cast members include Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews and Alan Arkin. Minions: The Rise of Gru will hit theaters on July 1st of this year.

Additionally, Universal and Illumination will release a non-Despicable Me film in 2023. Benjamin Renner is set to direct Migration, an animated film about family of ducks who attempt to migrate from New England to the Bahamas with a trip to New York City along the way. That film will flap into theaters on June 30, 2023.

Take flight in the new trailer for Minions: The Rise of Gru

Flying the friendly skies isn't always a pleasant experience for everyone. But the latest trailer for Minions: The Rise of Gru takes airline horror to a new level when the Minions fly the plane by themselves. For reasons that have yet to be explained, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto have taken over a passenger plane as the captain, co-captain, stewardess, and the rest of the crew. Judging by the way they perform their respective tasks, we're willing to bet it's their first time flying.

Most of the trailer revolves around the in-air hijinks of the Minions crew, including the unfortunate one who nearly flushes himself down the plane's toilet. But it's much worse for the human passengers, who have no idea what to make of the chaos surrounding them. We also get a brief glimpse of young Gru, with Steve Carell reprising his role from the Despicable Me movies.

Already receiving rave reviews, Deli Boys is a hilarious comedy about two Pakistani American brothers, Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj (Saagar Shaikh), who discover that their father was much more than a convenience store owner. When he suddenly passes, the brothers discover that dear Dad was actually embroiled in a life of crime.
If they don’t want to lose everything their family has worked for, they need to take over as the new crime bosses. But this is not a life they know anything about. As one of the most anticipated Hulu shows of 2025, Deli Boys’ first season delights thanks to its clever one-liners, talented cast, and bizarre storylines.

The Residence (March 20)

The best way to describe The Residence is that it's like Knives Out in the White House with a gender-swapped Benoit Blanc-like character. The lead is Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), an equally eccentric yet brilliant detective who consults with the local police. When the White House chief usher, A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito in a role that was originally supposed to be played by the late Andre Braugher), winds up dead, she’s called in to investigate. A state dinner is going on downstairs with officials from Australia, and Cupp orders that no one leave until she questions all 140+ people present.
The Residence is plenty of fun, mixing the usual whodunit formula with Shonda Rhimes' unique creative flair that will keep you guessing from one episode, even a moment, to the next. Aduba is perfect as Cupp, who combines an oddball personality — including repeatedly birdwatching in the middle of a murder case — with a subtle sarcasm. Through it all, however, she throws down astute observations that teach everyone she knows exactly what she’s doing, even if it doesn’t look like it. If you love the whodunit genre, The Residence won’t disappoint.

The Studio (March 26)

One of Apple TV+’s quieter new show releases is The Studio, which has gotten overwhelmingly positive reception in early reviews. Seth Rogen created and stars in this comedy as Matt Remick, a man who longs to run a Hollywood studio. When he finally realizes this dream, however, the reality of the complicated balancing act of managing budgets, changing economic and societal times, corporate demands, and eccentric actors sinks in.
The Studio has an incredible cast that includes Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn. There's also a rotating selection of guest stars playing exaggerated versions of themselves to add to the Hollywood feel, from Zac Efron to Martin Scorsese. Early reviews already give The Studio a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, with Slant Magazine’s Ross McIndoe singling out the dark and “more than a little pointed” comedy as the highlight.
