3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (January 10-12)
Two men sit and look at each other in Edge of Darkness.

The year is still new, but some problems remain the same. Those pesky 10 pounds are still there despite your recommitment to exercising regularly, and the weather still isn't as all that great. Movies still hold the promise of escape, though, and this weekend, audiences will have the option of seeing Gerard Butler kick some butt in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera or a musical biopic of English pop star Robbie Williams starring a CGI monkey (yes, really) in Better Man.

For those wanting to stay in and chill, Max has plenty of movies for you to watch. The three movies on this list aren't classics, but they are underrated films that are worth watching. Hey, it beats going to the gym again.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (January 3-5)
A father and his children walk in the woods in Captain Fantastic.

It's the first weekend of 2025, and you're probably too tired to do much of anything. I know I am; if I look at another firework or attend another party, I may just scream out loud. Instead, what I'm doing this weekend is staying in, logging on to my Max account, and watching some good movies.

The streamer has tons to choose from, including recent additions like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Juror #2. If you've already seen those excellent films, then the following three movies should be just the ticket to start your year off on the right foot.

3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (December 27-29)
A man watches a woman drink in Leatherheads.

I don't know about you, but I'm done with Christmas already. The stockings have been stuffed away, the tree is already down, and the holiday music has been turned off. When I'm watching a movie, I don't want to see a single red Santa suit or green mistletoe. I'm over it.

If you're like me, and need a good movie (or three) to watch this weekend, this list is for you. Max has plenty of non-holiday films for you to stream, and this batch, which includes an underrated sports rom-com and a creepy sci-fi flick, is just the ticket to get you over Christmas and prepare for 2025. (Oh, and if you're also going to the movie theater this weekend, check out Nosferatu. It's great!)
