3 great free movies you should stream this weekend (June 7-9)

Ryan Reynolds stuck in a coffin underground holding a lighter in a scene from Buried.
Warner Bros. Pictures

This weekend marks the return of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Smith and Lawrence reprise their roles as Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett for the fourth Bad Boys installment. At home, Netflix’s Hit Man should attract a lot of eyeballs thanks to Glen Powell, one of the industry’s rising stars.

Both Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Hit Man cost the price of a movie ticket and Netflix subscription, respectively. However, FAST services provide cinephiles with thousands of movies for free. Sign up, watch a few ads, and enjoy the movie. Below are three great movies to stream this weekend that won’t cost you a dime. Our selections include a Jason Sudeikis-led comedy, an underrated thriller starring Deadpool himself, and a charming sequel featuring an Oscar winner and popular talk show host.

We’re the Millers (2013)

A family of four looks to the left in We're the Millers.
Warner Bros. Pictures

Before he became everyone’s favorite soccer coach in Ted Lasso, Sudeikis was an amateur pot dealer in We’re the Millers. After his money is stolen, David Burke (Sudeikis) must smuggle drugs from Mexico for his supplier Brad (Ed Helms). Crossing the border with drugs is essentially impossible for one man to accomplish. However, David can make it out alive with a family in tow.

To pose as his family, David hires Rose (Jennifer Aniston), a stripper; Casey (Emma Roberts), a rebellious teenager; and Kenny (Will Poulter), a gullible teen. This fake family of four packs into an RV and heads to Mexico on a “vacation” to get the marijuana. Ironically, dealing with drug dealers is not the biggest threat. The Fitzgeralds, a strange and giddy family, are the ones who threaten David’s entire operation.

Buried (2010)

A man bleeding from his head holds a phone for light.
Warner Bros. Pictures

In 2024, Ryan Reynolds is one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood. When he’s not playing Deadpool, Reynolds wins Emmys and soccer matches on Welcome to Wrexham. Before becoming an A-list megastar, Reynolds took more chances in genre work over a decade ago. The best example of this was Buried, Rodrigo Cortés’ 2010 survival-thriller.

On the list of many people’s biggest fears, being buried alive has to be in the top five. That’s the situation that Paul Conroy (Reynolds) finds himself in. Paul is an American truck driver working in Iraq when terrorists ambush him. After being knocked unconscious, Paul wakes up trapped inside a wooden coffin. All Paul has is a dying smartphone and a handful of tools, including a glowstick, a pocket knife, a lighter, and a pen.

Paul learns that he must pay a ransom or he will die in the coffin. Buried never loses the audience’s attention because of Reynolds, who gives one of his most underrated performances. Be prepared to feel claustrophobic.

Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1994)

‘Sister Act 2' Cast Performs 'Oh Happy Day' on 'The View'

After posing as a nun in Sister Act, Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg) now works as a performer in Las Vegas. Deloris’ nun friends — Sisters Mary Patrick (Kathy Najimy), Mary Robert (Wendy Makkena), and Mary Lazarus (Mary Wickes) — need her to reprise her role as Sister Mary Clarence and pose as the music teacher at the St. Francis Academy. The school faces closure if its reputation does not improve. Deloris, who attended the school as a child, agrees to help.

Timing is everything. Why is now the right moment to revisit Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit? On June 5, Goldberg reunited with the cast of Sister Act 2 on an episode of The View. Goldberg conversed with several of the film’s stars — including Najimy and Sheryl Lee Ralph — before donning her signature habit and leading a performance of Oh Happy Day. The song still plays great, even without the legendary Lauryn Hill.

3 great free movies to stream this weekend (February 14-16)
A man holds a woman as she does pottery.

It's Valentine's Day weekend, which means only one thing: Captain America: Brave New World. Surprisingly, Marvel is electing to release their first movie of 2025 over the romantic holiday. However, it's technically a four-day weekend because of President's Day, so it's an extra day to claim more box office receipts. Brave New World should open north of $90 million over the four-day weekend.
Like many of you this holiday, Valentine's Day is an excuse to watch romantic movies. FAST services offer a wide selection of romance movies for free. Seriously, signing up for one of these services does not cost any money. With that being said, try one of these three movies: a raunchy teen comedy, a 1990s romantic classic, and a 1980s dancing flick.

Sex Drive (2008)

A teen sex comedy involving the Amish was probably not on anyone's bingo card except Sean Anders, the writer and director of Sex Drive. Recent high school graduate Ian (Josh Zuckerman) wants to lose his virginity more than anything. While scoping out potential talent online, Ian stumbles across "Ms. Tasty," a beautiful woman who agrees to meet in person.
Ian lives in Illinois, while Ms. Tasty resides in Tennessee. With the help of his best friends Lance Nesbitt (Clark Duke) and Felicia Alpine (Amanda Crew), Ian steals his brother's car and hits the open road. The trio stumbles upon an Amish community hosting a Rumspringa party. The hijinks have only just begun, especially when Ms. Tasty might be someone else.

Ghost (1990) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers
Who knew pottery could be such a beautiful activity? Throw on some Unchained Melody, and Ghost is possibly the most romantic movie about the supernatural. Banker Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) lives with his girlfriend Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) in a Manhattan loft. While walking home one night, Sam is murdered in front of Molly. Sam refuses to go to heaven, electing to stay on Earth and identify his killer.
Unfortunately for Sam, his best friend and business partner, Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn), hired a criminal to shake him down for passwords to a lucrative business account. Knowing Carl must get these passwords from Molly, Sam seeks aid from psychic Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg). Oda Mae is the only one who can see Sam, so she reluctantly agrees to help. 3 underrated (HBO) Max movies you should watch this weekend (February 7-9)
A group of young adults walk on the grass in Final Destination 2.

This weekend is one of the few cases where the arts take a backseat to sports. Super Bowl LIX will be played on Sunday, February 9. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles will play for the right to call themselves champions. Over 115 million viewers are expected to watch Super Bowl LIX. More people will watch when you consider that the Big Game draws big crowds around one television.

The Super Bowl is Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. ET. Until then, what should you watch? Max has an excellent lineup of prestige dramas, hilarious comedies, action thrillers, and frightening horrors. While the Max homepage is a great resource, many movies are hidden within each genre. The three movies below represent under-the-radar picks that can be equally as satisfying as the noteworthy titles.

3 great Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend (February 7-9)
Denzel Washington in He Got Game.

When picking selections for the weekend ahead, we don't tend to do so by year. But by a fluke of the February release schedule, all of our selections for the three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend were released in theaters in 1998. And they couldn't be more different from each other.
Our first selection is a powerful father-and-son drama from director Spike Lee, while the second features one of Oprah Winfrey's performances. The final selection is a classic comedy that caused quite a stir when it was originally released, but it may seem relatively tame nearly three decades later.

He Got Game (1998)

Spike Lee's He Got Game is a basketball fable that allowed NBA player Ray Allen to give the performance of a lifetime as Jesus Shuttlesworth, one of the top high school basketball prospects in the country. Colleges are so eager to sign Jesus that the governor of New York briefly releases his estranged father, Jake Shuttlesworth (Denzel Washington), from prison just to convince Jesus to attend the governor's alma mater.
