This story is part of Weekend Watchlist, a series that showcases hidden gems and underrated films tucked away in your favorite streaming libraries.

Despite the influx of new movies, the box office had its lowest-grossing weekend of 2025. Novocaine won the weekend with about $8.7 million. Mickey 17, Black Bag, and Opus combined for a $16 million gross. Perhaps people stayed home and watched Netflix’s The Electric State. Either way, Snow White is here to rescue the box office.

The theaters may not be as crowded this weekend due to March Madness. If you don’t like basketball, then you need something to watch. What about a free movie on a FAST service? The three movies below are available to stream at no cost. Our recommendations include a charming rom-com, an award-winning drama, and a baseball comedy.

Two Night Stand (2014)

A woman and man laugh while sitting in bed
Entertainment One

Who wants a one-night stand when you can do two nights instead? Unfortunately for Megan (Analeigh Tipton) and Alec (Miles Teller), this idea of a two-night stand becomes a reality. Struggling to move on from her ex-fiancé, Megan joins a dating website and decides to have a one-night stand with Alec. The morning is incredibly awkward, but at least Megan can leave the apartment and go home.

That is until Megan tries to open the door to the outside and cannot leave due to a blizzard. Forced to spend more time together, Megan and Alec open up and enjoy each other’s company. The snow dies down, and Megan eventually leaves, but these one-night standers might have a genuine connection. Two Night Stand is predictably delightful thanks to the chemistry between Tipton and Teller.

Good Will Hunting (1996)

Robin Williams and Matt Damon sit next to each other on a bench.
Miramax Films

Do you like apples? Well, Good Will Hunting won two Oscars. How do you like them apples? (Terrible joke.) Good Will Hunting is the movie that launched Matt Damon and Ben Affleck into stardom. South Boston’s Will Hunting (Damon) is a gifted young man who willingly works as a janitor at MIT to be closer to math geniuses. When Professor Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgard) discovers Will’s genius, he wants to mentor the troublesome boy.

To avoid jail time, Will agrees to mandated therapy sessions with Professor Lambeau’s old friend, Sean Maguire (Robin Williams). Unlike previous authority figures, Sean actually listens to Will and earns his trust. Sean even convinces Will to give love a chance with a Harvard student named Skylar (Minnie Driver). By the end of this riveting tale of self-discovery, you might even leave to go see about a girl, too.

Orion Pictures

The games might have been played in Japan, but the MLB is back for another season. Scratch that baseball itch by revisiting the tale of a North Carolina minor league team in Bull Durham. Veteran catcher Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) is a minor-league journeyman who gets sent to the single-A Durham Bulls to mentor a hotshot rookie pitcher named Ebby Calvin Laloosh (Tim Robbins), aka Nuke.

Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) lives in the town and loves baseball more than anything. She also enjoys spending the entire year with one player and showing him everything he needs to know about the game. Annie chooses Nuke, and the two embark on a passionate affair. With Annie’s teaching and Crash’s wisdom, Nuke learns how to be a baseball player. Because of their love for the game, maybe it’s Annie and Crash who should be together.

3 free underrated sci-fi movies on Amazon you should watch in January 2025
David Bowie smiling on a patterned background with a sweep of red hair on his face in The Man Who Fell To Earth.

What was initially known as Amazon Freevee will technically be no more. The shows and movies available through the free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service are being folded into Amazon Prime Video. Don’t worry, the content will still be free and won’t require an Amazon Prime subscription to access it. Those with a subscription will get added features, like the ability to re-start playback at a later date. But the movies and shows will be free to access with ads, just as they were under the Freevee banner.

With that said, you can still find plenty of content for free from Amazon, no matter how you access it. This includes these three free underrated sci-fi movies on Amazon you should watch in January.

The Residence (March 20)
The Residence | Official Trailer | Netflix
The best way to describe The Residence is that it's like Knives Out in the White House with a gender-swapped Benoit Blanc-like character. The lead is Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), an equally eccentric yet brilliant detective who consults with the local police. When the White House chief usher, A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito in a role that was originally supposed to be played by the late Andre Braugher), winds up dead, she’s called in to investigate. A state dinner is going on downstairs with officials from Australia, and Cupp orders that no one leave until she questions all 140+ people present.
The Residence is plenty of fun, mixing the usual whodunit formula with Shonda Rhimes' unique creative flair that will keep you guessing from one episode, even a moment, to the next. Aduba is perfect as Cupp, who combines an oddball personality — including repeatedly birdwatching in the middle of a murder case — with a subtle sarcasm. Through it all, however, she throws down astute observations that teach everyone she knows exactly what she’s doing, even if it doesn’t look like it. If you love the whodunit genre, The Residence won’t disappoint.

The Studio (March 26)
The Studio — Official Trailer | Apple TV+
One of Apple TV+’s quieter new show releases is The Studio, which has gotten overwhelmingly positive reception in early reviews. Seth Rogen created and stars in this comedy as Matt Remick, a man who longs to run a Hollywood studio. When he finally realizes this dream, however, the reality of the complicated balancing act of managing budgets, changing economic and societal times, corporate demands, and eccentric actors sinks in.
The Studio has an incredible cast that includes Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn. There's also a rotating selection of guest stars playing exaggerated versions of themselves to add to the Hollywood feel, from Zac Efron to Martin Scorsese. Early reviews already give The Studio a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, with Slant Magazine’s Ross McIndoe singling out the dark and “more than a little pointed” comedy as the highlight.
