John Travolta plays another slick gangster in the first 'Gotti' trailer

The past couple of decades have been less than kind to John Travolta, who once reigned as a world-famous sex symbol in Hollywood. Apart from an acclaimed comedic performance in the 2007 Hairspray reboot and an award-worthy turn as litigator Robert Shapiro in FX’s American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson (available on Netflix), Travolta’s most noteworthy recent work is probably all the work he’s had done on his face.

Whether that will change with Travolta’s upcoming John Gotti biopic (titled Gotti) remains to be seen, but at least he’s back in the spotlight! Lionsgate has released the first official trailer via YouTube, giving us an in-depth look at the film.

Apart from Travolta — who plays Gotti, obviously — Kelly Preston (Travolta’s real-life spouse) appears as Gotti’s wife, Victoria DiGiorgio, and their daughter, Ella Bleu, plays Angel Gotti. Spencer Lofranco (Unbroken) portrays John Gotti Jr., who acts as the film’s narrator as well as one of the main characters. The story spans nearly 30 years, recounting Gotti’s rise to the top of the Gambino crime family and his tumultuous reign as its de facto leader.

In the trailer itself, Travolta does most of the narration, affecting an Italian accent and making grandiose statements like “I was a kid in these streets, and I made it to the top” and “I will build something that nobody can destroy!” The trailer is fairly standard action-crime fare, featuring Gotti’s betrayal of boss Paul Castellano and Gotti Jr.’s rise up the criminal ranks (against his mother’s wishes, of course).

The very fact that Gotti is actually happening is a minor miracle, considering the project’s tumultuous history. Kevin Connolly (known best as “E” from Entourage) will direct, but he’s the fourth man tapped for that role, succeeding Nick Cassavetes, Joe Johnston, and Barry Levinson. Several big names have been associated with the project over the past several years, including Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Lindsay Lohan, but none remained by the time filming began in 2016 (by the way, the movie was actually shot in Cincinnati, not New York).

Gotti was written by Leo Rossi and Lou Dobbs. Though the trailer itself simply says “Coming Soon” at the end, the description below the YouTube video says the film will be released in theaters and on demand on December 15.

New Thunderbolts trailer solves one long-standing MCU mystery
Yelena, Bucky, John, and Alexei stand in Avengers Tower in "Marvel's Thunderbolts*."

Marvel Studios went out of its way to make the most of its D23 Brazil panel this weekend. Not only did the studio offer those in attendance new looks at upcoming titles like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Daredevil: Born Again, but it also used the occasion to release a new trailer for next year's Thunderbolts*. The film is shaping up to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2025. Thanks to its well-received first trailer, it has also generated one of the most positive early waves of anticipation of any Marvel Cinematic Universe project of the past few years.

The early hype surrounding Thunderbolts* shouldn't die down in response to its latest trailer, either. The nearly four-minute-long teaser opens with a well-staged desert chase involving Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). From there, the Thunderbolts* trailer goes on to confirm — as many fans had previously suspected — that it was CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who bought Avengers Tower between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Creature Commandos trailer introduces James Gunn’s DC Universe and a fan-favorite Batman villain
Doctor Phosphorus, The Bride, and Nina Mazursky walk together in Creature Commandos.

A new DC Universe is on its way, and comic book fans have finally gotten their first substantial look at it. The multimedia franchise isn't set to kick things off with one of its flagship heroes like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman, either. Instead, the DCU's first official entry belongs to an oddball mix of monsters known as the Creature Commandos. Created and written by James Gunn, Creature Commandos promises to bridge the gap between 2021's The Suicide Squad, 2022's Peacemaker, and the DCU's future.

Now, over a year after Gunn announced Creature Commandos, the animated series' first official trailer has debuted online. The teaser, which runs over 2 minutes long, efficiently introduces several of Creature Commandos' core characters, including The Bride (Indira Varma), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn), Weasel (also Sean Gunn), and Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk).

A Thousand Blows teaser reveals first look at new series from Peaky Blinders creator
Stephen Graham walks shirtless in A Thousand Blows.

"No one gets to take from me and live. No one," vows Sugar Goodson (Stephen Graham), a dangerous criminal kingpin, in the first teaser trailer for A Thousand Blows. The forthcoming drama is the latest TV offering from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Like his most successful and beloved TV effort, too, A Thousand Blows will both explore England's history and immerse viewers in a criminal underworld full of tension, deceit, and violence.

Inspired by numerous real-life stories, the series is set in the East End of London in the 1880s. It follows two friends from Jamaica, Hezekiah (Malachi Kirby) and Alec (Francis Lovehall), as they find themselves fighting for their lives in East London's criminal underground. Once there, Hezekiah and Alec not only cross paths with Mary Carr (Erin Doherty), the leader of an all-female gang, but also make an unfortunate enemy of Graham's Sugar, whose criminal viciousness is reflected in his skill as an illegal boxer.
