Visa pairs with Fandango for free summer movie deal

With rising competition from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, Red Box video machines, and a variety of other avenues, ticket vendors and theaters alike are doing everything they can to put butts in those red velvet seats.

That’s why Visa Signature is pairing with Fandango to offer “Movie Fridays on Fandango” a special summer deal that hopes to coax movie fans off their couches and in front of the silver screen.

Here’s the rundown: Use your Visa signature card to buy two or more movie tickets on a Friday, for a Friday movie on the above link, and get one free ticket from Visa and Fandango. The offer is valid through August 21, 2015 but is limited to one purchase per card every 30 days. You can check out the official terms here.

Whether it’s Marvel Studios’ Ant-man or Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the summer is never short on blockbusters, and with movie ticket prices as high as they are, this deal is offering some pretty significant savings. It’s worth noting that you’ll have to pay Fandango’s surcharge for buying through the site, but you’ll still come out on top if you plan on heading back to theaters.

On the other hand, if the kiddies make Friday nights tough for you, there are several different deals available for families looking to bond in front of the big screen.

For instance, Regal theaters around the country are offering $1 tickets to second-run flicks such as Madagascar 3, Muppets Most Wanted, Annie, The Lego Movie, and Penguins of Madagascar among others. The nine-week “Regal Summer Movie Express” promotion started in June with showings taking place on weekdays at 10 a.m.

While watching at home is always more convenient, movie theaters have made major strides in visual and audio technology in recent years to make the experience more epic than ever. And let’s face it, your home theater just can’t compare to that massive screen. So get out to your local theater, and get a good deal while you’re at it.

A familiar lion returned to the top as Mufasa topped the domestic box office with $11.7 million. Business won't be booming this weekend with the arrival of Flight Risk, a thriller that could open under $10 million.
With a lack of enticing options at the theaters, staying home could be a viable option. Thanks to FAST services, subscribers do not have to pay to watch movies. Instead of a payment plan, FAST services include ads that must be watched during the feature presentation. That's not a bad deal at all. Try watching one of these three movies, including a disaster thriller, a heist adventure, and a rom-com.

Gerard Butler and Den of Thieves 2: Pantera shot right to the box office last weekend. The heist film starring Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. gave Lionsgate a $15.5 million opening, the studio's first No. 1 since 2023. The victory should be short-lived, with Wolf Man expected to pull in at least $20 million for the holiday weekend.

If you decide to stay home this weekend, there is no need to spend any money to watch a movie. Sign up for a FAST service at no cost and enjoy an excellent selection of blockbusters, comedies, dramas, rom-coms, and more. What was initially known as Amazon Freevee will technically be no more. The shows and movies available through the free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service are being folded into Amazon Prime Video. Don’t worry, the content will still be free and won’t require an Amazon Prime subscription to access it. Those with a subscription will get added features, like the ability to re-start playback at a later date. But the movies and shows will be free to access with ads, just as they were under the Freevee banner.

With that said, you can still find plenty of content for free from Amazon, no matter how you access it. This includes these three free underrated sci-fi movies on Amazon you should watch in January.
