Uncharted movie ramps up, adds Antonio Banderas to the cast

A film adaptation of the hit video game Uncharted has been in the works for a few years, but things now seem to be really moving forward as Variety reports that Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas has joined the cast.

Banderas will join Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in Sony’s adaptation in an undisclosed role. According to Variety, Sophia Ali and Tati Gabrielle have also joined the film.

Banderas’ recent performance in Pedro Almodovar’s 2019 film Pain and Glory earned him significant critical acclaim, including his first Oscar nomination. He has an extended history with Sony, starring in The Legend of Zorro, The Mask of Zorro, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Desperado. His most recent credits besides Pain and Glory include Steven Soderbergh’s The Laundromat and Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups.

Ali’s credits include Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare and Richard Linklater’s Everbody Wants Some!! Gabrielle stars on Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and starred on The CW’s The 100. Both Ali’s and Gabrielle’s roles are also undisclosed at this time.

The Uncharted video game series is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation and has become one of the console’s most popular and highest-grossing games. The main series follows Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who travels the world to uncover historical mysteries and often finds himself in precarious situations.

The plot of the upcoming film is not currently known. While the series is well-known for detail-rich, intense story lines, it has not been reported whether the film adaptation will follow one of the existing story lines or create a new one entirely. The series may have franchise potential but given the long gestation period of this first film, it may be some time until another is greenlit.

Ruben Fleischer (Venom) is on board to direct the adaptation from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan serve as executive producers, while Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing for Atlas Entertainment and Avi Arad and Ari Arad produce for Arad Productions.

Uncharted is currently set to release in theaters on March 5, 2021.

Uncharted’s first trailer sends Tom Holland on an adventure

In 2007, Sony introduced video game players to Nathan "Nate" Drake, the modern-day Indiana Jones. And over the course of four Uncharted games, we got to see Nate live up to that billing through a series of thrilling adventures that took place all over the world. Next year, Sony Pictures is celebrating the franchise's 15th anniversary with a live-action Uncharted film. And now, the first Uncharted trailer has arrived.

Tom Holland, the star of Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man films, is stepping into the role of Nathan Drake for the film. As you may have noticed, Holland is significantly younger than Nate's video game counterpart. That's why the movie is being described as a prequel to the games. Although if the first meeting between Nate and his mentor, Victor "Sully" Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg), is any indication, then it looks like the film is playing a little fast and loose with the backstory and mythos.

Already receiving rave reviews, Deli Boys is a hilarious comedy about two Pakistani American brothers, Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj (Saagar Shaikh), who discover that their father was much more than a convenience store owner. When he suddenly passes, the brothers discover that dear Dad was actually embroiled in a life of crime.
If they don’t want to lose everything their family has worked for, they need to take over as the new crime bosses. But this is not a life they know anything about. As one of the most anticipated Hulu shows of 2025, Deli Boys’ first season delights thanks to its clever one-liners, talented cast, and bizarre storylines.

The Residence (March 20)

The best way to describe The Residence is that it's like Knives Out in the White House with a gender-swapped Benoit Blanc-like character. The lead is Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), an equally eccentric yet brilliant detective who consults with the local police. When the White House chief usher, A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito in a role that was originally supposed to be played by the late Andre Braugher), winds up dead, she’s called in to investigate. A state dinner is going on downstairs with officials from Australia, and Cupp orders that no one leave until she questions all 140+ people present.
The Residence is plenty of fun, mixing the usual whodunit formula with Shonda Rhimes' unique creative flair that will keep you guessing from one episode, even a moment, to the next. Aduba is perfect as Cupp, who combines an oddball personality — including repeatedly birdwatching in the middle of a murder case — with a subtle sarcasm. Through it all, however, she throws down astute observations that teach everyone she knows exactly what she’s doing, even if it doesn’t look like it. If you love the whodunit genre, The Residence won’t disappoint.

The Studio (March 26)

One of Apple TV+’s quieter new show releases is The Studio, which has gotten overwhelmingly positive reception in early reviews. Seth Rogen created and stars in this comedy as Matt Remick, a man who longs to run a Hollywood studio. When he finally realizes this dream, however, the reality of the complicated balancing act of managing budgets, changing economic and societal times, corporate demands, and eccentric actors sinks in.
The Studio has an incredible cast that includes Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn. There's also a rotating selection of guest stars playing exaggerated versions of themselves to add to the Hollywood feel, from Zac Efron to Martin Scorsese. Early reviews already give The Studio a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, with Slant Magazine’s Ross McIndoe singling out the dark and “more than a little pointed” comedy as the highlight.
