Taylor Swift announces 1989 (Taylor’s Version) for the fall

Taylor Swift’s next re-recorded album will be 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Swift announced the upcoming album on Wednesday night in front of a sold-out SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

“There’s something I’ve been planning for a really, really, really, ridiculously, embarrassingly long time. And instead of telling you about it, I think I’ll just sort of show you,” Swift said, revealing the artwork for the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) on the screen behind her. Swift then performed New Romantics, a deluxe track off 2014’s 1989, as one of two surprise songs of the night.

After the concert, Swift shared the news on her Instagram shortly after the concert. “The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways,” Swift wrote. The re-recorded version will include five “From The Vault tracks,” which are “insane.”

Swift is known for dropping Easter eggs to her fans, so many “Swifties” predicted the announcement. Wednesday’s date was “8/9,” which happened to be the last concert of the U.S. leg of The Eras Tour. Also, Swifties discovered it’s been 3,208 days since the release of 1989 on October 27, 2014. Taking those numbers, 3+2+0+8=13, Swift’s lucky number.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is Swift’s fourth re-recorded album, following Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), and most recently, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) from July 2023. In 2019, Swift revealed she would re-record her first six albums to regain control of her album rights after Scooter Braun gained control of her catalog with the acquisition of Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group.

Released in 2014, 1989 became Swift’s fifth studio album. The multi-platinum album marked a turning point for Swift musically as the album became her first full pop album. Swift went on to win three Grammy Awards for 1989, including Album of the Year, becoming the first solo female artist to win Album of the Year twice. Swift won Album of the Year for Fearless in 2010.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) will be released on October 27, 2023.

Is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie streaming?

Movie theaters needed a superhero this month, and The Marvels is still a few weeks away. However, Taylor Swift may be just the hero that theater owners have been asking for, thanks to her new concert movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.  Swift's fans, who call themselves Swifties, have already ensured that this film will be a blockbuster success with an opening weekend that will put many recent superhero flicks -- like The Flash and Blue Beetle -- to shame. Swift didn't even need superpowers to make that happen.

The Eras Tour was filmed over three nights of Swift's sold-out performances at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and it's a nearly three-hour experience. For many of Swift's fans, seeing it in a movie theater is the only affordable option. But even people who saw Swift's concerts in person seem eager to see it again on the big screen. The big question now is if fans at home have a streaming option for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. And we've got the answer below.

Taylor Swift on making All Too Well, her favorite movies, and her future as a director
Dylan O' Brien carries Sadie Sink in All Too Well.

Known as the premier populist fall film festival, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is home to a yearly assortment of the best and biggest films of the season. Large crowd-pleasers like Netflix's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Oscar contenders like Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans, and more arrive to premiere and build buzz leading up to their releases. However, this year, the hottest name at the festival is not one typically associated with the filmmaking scene.

Bringing along her musical short film All Too Well, Taylor Swift arrived at the festival (alongside Stranger Things star Sadie Sink) for a special 35mm screening and conversation with TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey. With Digital Trends attending the event in full, here's our complete recap of TIFF's In Conversation with Taylor Swift.
Early movie aspirations (and inspirations)
After the film's screening ends with much applause, Swift commences the conversation by delving into the shift in her creative process from pop icon to short film director and the motivation behind that shift. A highly successful musical artist who released her first album at 16, Swift recounts that even from the conceptualization stage of her music, she would "immediately start thinking" about visual components for her shows and music videos.

The Residence (March 20)
The Residence | Official Trailer | Netflix
The best way to describe The Residence is that it's like Knives Out in the White House with a gender-swapped Benoit Blanc-like character. The lead is Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), an equally eccentric yet brilliant detective who consults with the local police. When the White House chief usher, A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito in a role that was originally supposed to be played by the late Andre Braugher), winds up dead, she’s called in to investigate. A state dinner is going on downstairs with officials from Australia, and Cupp orders that no one leave until she questions all 140+ people present.
The Residence is plenty of fun, mixing the usual whodunit formula with Shonda Rhimes' unique creative flair that will keep you guessing from one episode, even a moment, to the next. Aduba is perfect as Cupp, who combines an oddball personality — including repeatedly birdwatching in the middle of a murder case — with a subtle sarcasm. Through it all, however, she throws down astute observations that teach everyone she knows exactly what she’s doing, even if it doesn’t look like it. If you love the whodunit genre, The Residence won’t disappoint.

The Studio (March 26)
The Studio — Official Trailer | Apple TV+
One of Apple TV+’s quieter new show releases is The Studio, which has gotten overwhelmingly positive reception in early reviews. Seth Rogen created and stars in this comedy as Matt Remick, a man who longs to run a Hollywood studio. When he finally realizes this dream, however, the reality of the complicated balancing act of managing budgets, changing economic and societal times, corporate demands, and eccentric actors sinks in.
The Studio has an incredible cast that includes Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn. There's also a rotating selection of guest stars playing exaggerated versions of themselves to add to the Hollywood feel, from Zac Efron to Martin Scorsese. Early reviews already give The Studio a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, with Slant Magazine’s Ross McIndoe singling out the dark and “more than a little pointed” comedy as the highlight.
