Cuckoo (2024)

Hunter Schafer in Cuckoo.
Neon

If you know what a cuckoo bird is, then you may have some inklin as to why the horror film Cuckoo shares the same name. But it’s best to come into this movie cold and unsure of what’s happening, just like Gretchen (Hunter Schafer), the teenage girl at the heart of the story. Gretchen has recently lost her mother when she’s forced to move to the German alps alongside her father, Luis (Marton Csokas), her stepmother, Beth (Jessica Henwick), and her half-sister, Alma (Mila Lieu).

Alma is mute, and thus can’t explain why a strange sound causes her seizures. However, Gretchen realizes that something sinister is going on around them, and it’s centered on her father’s boss, Herr König (Dan Stevens), as well as a hooded woman who leaves something unexpected in her wake.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

Clark and Ellen Griswold in "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation."
Warner Bros. Pictures / Warner Bros. Pictures

The irony about National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation becoming a holiday classic is that it’s not a traditionally heartwarming film and it was never trying to be. Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) went a little crazy in the first Vacation film, but he’s feeling a lot better now. And this year, Clark is determined to give his wife, Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), and their children, Audrey (Juliette Lewis) and Rusty (Johnny Galecki), a great Christmas experience. He probably would have, too, if in-laws from both sides of the family hadn’t descended upon their home.

The most outrageous holiday interloper is Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid), who is technically the husband of Ellen’s cousin, Catherine (Miriam Flynn). Eddie just brings an additional level of chaos to the household, and he has an unfortunate tendency to take things too literally. That may come back to haunt Clark sooner than he thinks.

The Greatest Showman (2017)

The cast of The Greatest Showman.
20th Century Studios

About seven years before he reprised his iconic Marvel role in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman starred in The Greatest Showman, the holiday musical sensation of 2017. The film casts Jackman as P. T. Barnum, a man whose big dreams simply can’t be contained. When his humble life crumbles to pieces, Barnum slowly puts together a circus of acrobats, freaks, and wonders.

Barnum’s partner, Phillip Carlyle (Zac Efron), soon realizes that he only has eyes for Anne Wheeler (Zendaya), one of the best performers in the circus. But despite their shared feelings, the 19th century doesn’t offer a lot of tolerance for their interracial romance. There’s potential heartbreak ahead, but also soaring musical numbers that make this 20th Century Fox film feel more like a live-action Disney movie than anything else.

3 underrated movies on Hulu you need to watch in February 2025
Kristin Stewart in the 2020 film Underwater

Hulu's movie selection for February combines prestige plays with blockbuster success. The Oscar-nominated A Real Pain is heavily featured on the streamer. Jesse Eisenberg's road-trip dramedy received two Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actor for Kieran Culkin. Elsewhere, the biggest blockbuster on Hulu's homepage is Alien: Romulus, the latest terrifying chapter in the Alien franchise.
A Real Pain and Alien: Romulus will certainly be seen by many subscribers. However, there are numerous movies to watch that can be found on the genre pages. If you scroll carefully, you'll find a few diamonds in the rough. To save you time, here are three underrated movies to watch right now. Our picks include a quick thriller, an alien-in-the-ocean horror, and a raunchy comedy.

Underwater (2020)
Underwater | Official Trailer [HD] | 20th Century FOX
Underwater channels Ridley Scott's Alien, posing the question: What if the creature were beneath the surface? Directed by William Eubank, Underwater follows a group of employees at a research and drilling facility at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Part of the facility is destroyed during an underwater earthquake.
With no escape pods left, the group — including Norah Price (Kristen Stewart), Captain Lucien (Vincent Cassel), and Paul Abel (T.J. Miller) — decides that their only chance of survival is to walk to another research base one mile across the ocean floor. Big mistake because unknown creatures terrorize the crew upon their every movement. Like Alien, the team must get creative to survive or risk a painful death.

Phone Booth (2002)

Colin Farrell is in the midst of a career-defining run thanks to his Oscar-nominated role in The Banshees of Inisherin and his Golden Globe-winning turn as Oz Cobb in The Penguin. Farrell's always done good work throughout his three-decade run. Phone Booth is a case in point for Farrell's early work. Farrell stars as Stu Shepard, a sleazy New York City publicist who has been unfaithful to his wife Kelly (Radha Mitchell).
While in Times Square, Stu enters a phone booth to call his mistress. A mysterious man (Kiefer Sutherland) calls the booth and forces Stu to remain inside the phone booth. Stu doesn't take this threat seriously. However, this is no laughing matter. The man holds Stu at gunpoint and tells him to obey the rules or face the consequences. Phone Booth is a brisk 81-minute nail-biter with a good cat-and-mouse dynamic between Farrell and Sutherland.

Dirty Grandpa (2016)
Dirty Grandpa (2016 Movie - Zac Efron, Robert De Niro) Official Trailer – “Get Dirty”
It's OK to laugh at stupid humor. There is a lot of lewdness, raunchiness, and stupidity in Dirty Grandpa. Not everything has to be Citizen Kane. Sometimes, watching Zac Efron and Robert De Niro embark on a hijinks-fueled road trip will suffice. Jason Kelly (Efron) is a high-strung Alabama lawyer who will soon marry his boss's Type A daughter (Julianne Hough) in one week.
Before Jason walks down the aisle, he must drive his grandfather, Richard "Dick" Kelly (De Niro), to Boca Raton, Florida. While on the road trip, Dick tricks Jason into driving them to spring break in Daytona Beach, Florida. While Dick wants to party with booze and women, Jason cannot stop thinking about his future and refuses to relax. That's where Grandpa comes in, who shows his grandson how to let loose and have a good time.

3 great Hulu movies you need to stream this weekend (February 7-9)
Denzel Washington in He Got Game.

When picking selections for the weekend ahead, we don't tend to do so by year. But by a fluke of the February release schedule, all of our selections for the three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend were released in theaters in 1998. And they couldn't be more different from each other.
Our first selection is a powerful father-and-son drama from director Spike Lee, while the second features one of Oprah Winfrey's performances. The final selection is a classic comedy that caused quite a stir when it was originally released, but it may seem relatively tame nearly three decades later.

He Got Game (1998)

A group of football players stand with their coach.

This weekend welcomes one of the year's biggest sporting events, the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will play in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, which saw the Chiefs defeat the Eagles by a score of 38-35. This time, the Eagles will try to avenge their loss and prevent the Chiefs from winning three consecutive Super Bowls.
The Super Bowl is typically the most-watched TV event of the calendar year. Even if you don't like football, many consumers tune in for the entertaining commercials. To get ready for the game, FAST services have a wide selection of football movies to stream for free. Our recommendations include a comedy about a team of replacements, a 1990s comedy, and an underdog story.

The Replacements (2000)

Everyone likes a good redemption story. For the players in The Replacements, this is their shot at becoming football heroes. Due to a players' strike, the Washington Sentinels are left without a team. The Sentinels must win three of their final four games to make the postseason. Sentinels owner Edward O'Neil (Jack Warden) hires former coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) to lead a team of replacement players for the rest of the season.
McGinty accepts the deal and forms the team his way. The centerpiece of the new squad is quarterback Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves), a former All-American whose career went downhill after choking in a big game. With Falco as the leader, McGinty fills in the rest of the squad with rejects and no-names. However, the team eventually comes together and bonds over their shared disappointments. Who knows? Maybe a team of bench guys can become legends.
