Where to watch Top Gun: Maverick

The year is 2022, and Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood’s last movie stars, sits atop the movie world once again with Top Gun: Maverick. The sequel to 1986’s Top Gun is the number one movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office with a gross of $1.7 billion.

It cannot be overstated how much of a success story Top Gun: Maverick has been. The gamble to postpone the film’s release date multiple times to ensure its theatrical release paid off as the film registered Cruise’s best opening weekend at the box office with a domestic gross of $124 million back in late May. After a three-month theatrical run, the film can finally be seen in your home, and we’re here to let you know how.

Is it worth watching Top Gun: Maverick?

Top Gun: Maverick | NEW Official Trailer (2022 Movie) - Tom Cruise

Yes! Set thirty years after the events of Top Gun, Cruise reprises his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, an excellent Naval aviator who continues to dodge advancement to remain a test pilot. Maverick is given one last shot to save his career when he’s assigned to train a group of TOPGUN pilots for a top-secret mission. One of the pilots is Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s former RIO, “Goose,” who tragically died in the original film. Despite Maverick’s unorthodox methods, he’s still the best pilot, and it’s up to him to save the world from a potential catastrophe.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Spiderhead), Top Gun: Maverick has received rave reviews with many praising Cruise’s performance and the spectacular practical effects. Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm, and Val Kilmer, who reprises his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, round out the ensemble.

Cobra Kai never dies. Cobra Kai season 6, part 2 returns on November 15, with the karate students heading to Spain for the Sekai Taikai. On that same day, Netflix continues its venture into live sports with its biggest event — a boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Elsewhere, two new holiday movies — Hot Frosty and Our Little Secret — and the streamer's Oscar contender, Emilia Pérez, arrive this month.

The above titles will likely end up on Netflix's most popular lists. However, Netflix is a streaming service with thousands of selections, especially movies. To help expedite your decision, we curated a list of five underrated movies to watch this month. Our recommendations include a high school sports story, a rap drama, and a holiday romance.

The holiday season is in full swing on Netflix. The streamer will release several holiday rom-coms from now until Christmas. One movie on the upcoming slate is Our Little Secret, a new movie starring Lindsay Lohan as a woman forced to spend the holidays under the same roof with her ex-partner.

While the holidays provide an abundance of rom-coms, other romantic options don't involve Santa Claus or a Christmas tree. One of our top suggestions this month is Lonely Planet, a new adventure rom-com starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. Read on to learn more about Lonely Planet and two more rom-coms you should watch in November.

Netflix has begun rolling out its fall slate. One of the streamer's most popular TV shows, Outer Banks, returns for season 4. Nobody Wants This, a rom-com series with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, resonated so much with viewers that Netflix has already renewed it for a second season. On the movie side, Anna Kendrick's directorial debut, Woman of the Hour, could be the streamer's next big true crime success.

However, beyond the popular titles are plenty of little-seen and underrated shows. Some of these shows are original Netflix shows, while others are licensed from other networks. Regardless of their origins, these shows should be saved in your queue. Our October recommendations include a recently canceled comedy, a spine-tingling horror, and a hilarious sitcom.
