You won’t be able to watch Peacock on Roku or Amazon platforms

When it officially launches on Wednesday, NBCUniversal’s Peacock will not be available to stream on Roku or Amazon Fire TV.

NBCUniversal reportedly did not strike a deal with either Roku or Amazon in time due to issues over control of user data and sharing of advertising inventory, CNBC reported.

Since NBCUniversal is putting a strong focus on advertising for its new Peacock platform, the company and Roku reportedly disagree around the sharing of advertising inventory between the two platforms.

The issue with Amazon Fire TV is supposedly around who gets to control user information, and NBC executives told CNBC that they don’t want Peacock to be included within Amazon Channels.

An NBCUniversal spokesperson told Digital Trends that their hope is that all platforms — including Roku and Amazon Fire TV — will carry the streaming service since consumers who purchased those devices expect access.

Amazon said they didn’t have an update on when Peacock would be available on Amazon Fire TV. Digital Trends also reached out to Roku for comment. We will update this story when we hear back.

Peacock will be the second streaming service to bail on the two platforms, the first being HBO Max.

Roku is the top connected TV platform followed by Amazon Fire TV, according to a report from eMarketer. Combined, the two platforms make up about 70% of the market.

Instead, Peacock will debut on Wednesday on other platforms like iOS and Android devices, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Xbox One. An NBCUniversal spokesperson also said that they are in talks with additional partners.

The streaming service gave early bird access to Peacock Premium for Xfinity X1 and Flex customers in April. Peacock hopes to set itself apart from competitors like Netflix or Hulu by offering not only movies and TV shows but also sports, news, and live content. In all, the service will have more than 600 films and 400 TV series.

Peacock will launch with TV shows like 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, Saved by the Bell, Will & Grace, and more favorites. You’ll also be able to find movies like The Big Lebowski, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, the Jurassic Park franchise, The Breakfast Club, and others.

Even before it premiered, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was getting a lot of flak for the choice of Chris Pratt as the voice of the titular character. Following the debut of this adventure comedy film in theaters, critics still weren’t convinced that it was a hit. But The Super Mario Bros. Movie delighted fans and proved naysayers wrong.
The film explored an interesting dynamic whereby Bowser (Jack Black) was a softie with a deep love for Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy). Of course, this brought us that lovely gem of a Peaches song that kids sang for weeks after. The movie's mixed reviews are no match for its tremendous box office success, not to mention the fact that it broke a Guinness World Record to become the highest-grossing movie based on a video game and became the first movie based on a video game to gross more than $1 billion. It’s incredible to learn that with all these huge numbers, The Super Mario Bros. Movie only has a 59% Rotten Tomatoes critics score.

Amazon Prime Video has a wide selection of TV shows, but the list constantly changes. New shows, including Amazon Originals, are added while others are removed as licensing expires. But one thing remains constant: the selection is always expansive and exciting.

High School (2022)

High School isn’t underrated because it hasn’t been well-received. In fact, the single-season comedy has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes critics score and an equally impressive 94% audience score. But it’s one of those shows you probably never even heard of. Based on the memoir of the same name by Clea DuVall and Tegan and Sara Quin (yes, of the pop duo Tegan And Sara), it’s a lovely throwback to the grunge and rave-loving music and style culture of the ‘90s.
As the ladies (Railey and Seazynn Gilliland) navigate the everyday challenges of being teens, from identity to first loves, they also explore their deep passion for music. Rolling Stone and The New York Times called High School one of the best shows of 2022. It's strange why the series has been so underappreciated by mass audiences. High School is one of those shows that anyone who grew up in that era would appreciate, whether you like or even know of Tegan And Sara or not.

A victim of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, A League of Their Own received positive reviews and was actually renewed for a four-episode second and final season. But it was scrapped, and viewers were left disappointed. Nonetheless, the first season of the comedy-drama, based on the 1992 movie of the same name, is worth checking out.
Set in 1943, it’s about a women’s professional baseball league and the ladies who pursue playing the typically male-dominated sport. At the heart are two women. Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson) decides to follow her dream of playing professional baseball while her husband is away at war. Meanwhile, Maxine (Chanté Adams), a Black woman who loves the sport, struggles to find a team willing to even let her try out. With plenty of heart and humor, it’s a shame A League of Their Own didn’t get the attention it deserved based on its overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike.
